BYU Cougars v. OU Sooners on Sept. 5

These two college teams will be playing in the new Dallas Cowboys stadium in the fall. That will be an exciting place to be.

Colt McCoy and I crossed paths

Here we are tonight, one of us looking drastically better than the other. Dang it, I wasn't planning to run into my current football hero while attending the amazing #4 in the nation ranked University of Texas volleyball team playing against the #3 team, Nebraska. Colt McCoy was there chillin' with fellow teammate, Quan Cosby, when I asked Colt to pose with me. I was pumped to see my Longhorns football star this close and personal! The actual volleyball game was exciting as well. Texas won the first game and it was thrilling to be there. Those were some talented women! Then the Cornhuskers won the next game. You can't actually tell how TALL they are from this picture. UT won the third game! We left quickly after that so I could get Lindsey home since she has early morning seminary. They play five games total, the best three out of five wins. I haven't heard the results yet, but my friend, Jillian , is going to email me the results of the game. Here's Colt, prob...

U T game, fun times celebrating

Kelly and I went to the University of Texas football game on Saturday against Baylor. It's always an exciting place to be. Here are some pictures from Saturday, in no particular order. At the end of the games, the crowd never leaves right afterwards. Everyone hangs around and they sing the school song, The Eyes of Texas . People stand up and sing while holding up the Hook 'em Horns sign. This was afterwards when a lot of the crowd had cleared out of the stadium. At the beginning of the game, there's always a grand entrance of the team starting from exciting, loud music from the Jumbotron. This brand new section of the stadium is empty for the moment because it's where the band and a lot of the supports who are involved in the pre-game festivities sit. Then with a big cloud of smoke and enthusiasm, the University of Texas Longhorns rush out onto the field and the crowds go wild. Here's my favorite fan. This was a play in the fourth quarter toward the end o...

Game day pics

The first game of the season was great fun and the University of Texas Longhorns beat Arkansas State 21-13. It had poured down rain the night before and I was expecting rain at the game, but it was a perfectly dry night. These seats in the south end zone pictured above were added last year. More seats were added this year, and the construction will continue to add more seating in the north end zone area. We've always had seats on the east side of the stadium where the sun shines on and it's toasty warm. The sun started to set part way through the game and it was actually very pleasant outside. The band usually faces the opposite side and we don't get the best view, but they're still fun to watch. Everyone wears burnt orange. Except the kid in front of us, that is. This was an exciting moment when the football players first ran out into the stadium, while showing this video footage on the giant screen that made it seem like longhorns (the four-legged type) were runn...

It's football time! Hook 'Em!

Kelly and I are so excited to go to the University of Texas Longhorns first football game of the season tonight! I love college football. We had a tough time finding tickets and our good friend, Jim, gave me a contact and we got two excellent seats on the 45-yard line about 37 rows up. We've been watching the Colorado Golden Buffs v. the Colorado State Rams at home on tv, getting pumped up for tonight's game. It's halftime and both offenses are doing great. For all you Longhorns fans, here's a little something for you, and I hope we get to hear a lot of tonight, after every UT touchdown! (to the tune of I've been working on the railroad...) The eyes of Texas are upon you, All the livelong day. The eyes of Texas are upon you, You cannot get away. Do not think you can escape them, At night or early in the morn'. The eyes of Texas are upon you, Till Gabriel blows his horn! I'm crossing my fingers for a fantastic season watching Colt McCoy and the UT football t...

UT Football and Colt McCoy's injury

We went to the University of Texas football game last Saturday here in Austin when they played the Oklahoma State Cowboys and won by quite a bit. Things were looking good for the Longhorns until this past weekend when my favorite UT player, Colt McCoy, was pounced on by a huge K-State defense guy at an away game. I hadn't watched the game on television yet, having just returned to Texas on Saturday afternoon from Los Angeles for a few days, and arranged it so that I could attend Stake Conference that night to be back in town to hear Elder Bednar speak (that will be another post) when I made a quick run to H-E-B for some Sunday groceries. On the way home from H-E-B, I casually turned on the radio and to my disappointment, I heard the final score of the game that I was about to watch. Kelly had recorded it and we were going to watch it together. When I heard that the game ended in a 42-45 loss, I had little desire to see it. Plus I didn't want to ruin it for Kelly, so I stayed bu...

Longhorns v. Cornhuskers!

These pictures are from a game that we took the family to a couple of weeks ago, but since the University of Texas Longhorns beat the Nebraska Cornhuskers today, I'm pumped and wanted to show some UT spirit! Hook 'em Horns!!!! Go Texas! It was a close game today, but that does the trick! I am so excited that Colt McCoy's first football game to ever play outside of the state of Texas was a victory. What an exciting game and I'm sure those Texans were freezing while playing in the snow in Nebraska. The kicker brought Texas back to a lead to win in the final 20 seconds or so. Phew! Go Longhorns!

Go BYU!

I'm patiently waiting for my husband to get ready before we head over to the Dew's house to watch the BYU Cougars football game. I hope it's a good game! Lindsey is playing volleyball at the church this morning. I went out to breakfast to Village Inn this morning to celebrate my friend Jane's birthday with some other friends. Last night when Kelly was working late, I went over to my neighbor's house and sat in the hot tub with her and some friends for a couple of hours. It was fun. Tonight Kelly is deejaying the stake dance and Lindsey is excited about going. So far, it's a fun weekend!

It's football season!

I love college football. We were delighted to be at the season opener of the National Champions, University of Texas Longhorns football team! Woohoo! It was a fun game, although extra hot outside. I thought I was going to die. We took Stephanie and Brett with us, who moved here recently from Arizona, to enjoy their first ever UT football game. Brett was actually a BYU football player a while back and a big football fan, so it was fun to have them with us. The Longhorns beat North Texas 56 to 7. Later than night, Kelly and I watched football on television. Ben Olson, of UCLA, did an incredible job as their new quarterback, beating the University of Utah in a great game. Olson had not played football since his high school glory days five years previously. He went to BYU initially then redshirted, then went on a mission to Canada for two years. He must have thought he'd have a better chance at playing by going to UCLA, not too far from where he'd been a super star in high ...
