Homecoming "Plan B"

Rather than going to the overpriced ($25 per person) high school homecoming dance, where most LDS youth aren't exactly in their comfort zone (with the often immodest dress standards and not-so-nice dancing), Lindsey organized a night out on the town with these youth from our ward. They all met at our house and went out to dinner then to the movies, followed by some dessert at our house. I had the teens look online at the Cheesecake Factory menu before I attended the Relief Society General Broadcast at our stake center, then stopped by to pick up their selections on the way home (with Preston's mom). Lindsey, Hayden, Preston, and Lauren had a wonderful evening together, with a lot of laughing.
It was an action packed day and I still had all the baby shower decorations out, some dirty dishes (it was a two-load dishwasher day), but the kids didn't seem to mind. Christopher had a ball with his dad for the evening playing Halo 3 for hours while Lindsey was on her group date and I was out too.

What a fun night! That is too bad the dance would not be a good environment though- I loved my high schools dances!!!

Yeah, I know what you mean, Heidi. They're pretty bad here in Austin, apparently. Lindsey went last year and said it was nothing at all like the church dances and she didn't think it was a very good environment, even with the parent chaperones.

In the springtime, there's a "Mormon Prom" that is combined with one of the other stakes that is dressy and fun and they all look forward to. Lindsey is excited about that.

What a good idea to have a private prom party. It is scary how "mature" (immodest) many of the dresses are these days, Even around here I have seen a few girls in surprisingly skimpy dresses at restaurants before dances.

the seems like a ton of fun! i am about to go to a dance, but the guy i asked couldn't go because of his basketball team being out of town, but i decided to ask a good friend of mine instead. The good thing is that the boy i asked told me he would take me on a date to "make-up" for the dance. :)

It's my birthday!

Here's a cute little picture of me in kindergarten, 1968. All my life, I've never forgotten this shot below in first grade (1969) when the photog asked me to say "peaches" and he snapped the shot at the "ch" sound. The BIG REVEAL!

We LOVE our new pool! There are a couple of problems that need to be fixed, so we're crossing our fingers that they get it done right, and soon, considering we have given them the final check for the balance of the pool, and we don't have any leverage. Three of the waterfalls work. This is the main one and I like the natural look. Below, here's the deep end waterfall, and it's flows nicely. The water sheer like this one, that flows into the shallow beach area, is the fall that is not working. It's frustrating, but hopefully they'll fix it soon. The fountain in the spa is blocked too. Here's the small rock waterfall, which works just great. It took about 18 hours to fill the pool and we practically watched it gallon by gallon. I stayed up all night long, making sure it didn't overflow. We swim in it every day. Last night we went on a midnight swim and it was beautiful. The water temperature is perfect. Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan....
