Hello Dolly aka Magic Cookie Bars

These are way too rich and sweet to eat more than one, plus I need a glass of milk to go with it. Here's the before baking shot. And now the chocolaty after photo. I cut them into squares, individually bagged them, then put them in the freezer. Yummy!
Baking is fun, true. Eating the results is the best part.  Here's the recipe that I use.
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 1 cup pecans
  • 1 cup coconut
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 can Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk (14 ounces)
Melt butter then mix it together with the graham cracker crumbs.  Press onto the bottom of a 9" x 13" baking pan. (That's not the size I used here, because I kind of multiplied the recipe to fit pan that is pictured.)  It's not a bad idea to butter the bottom of the pan first.  Then layer the pecans, coconut, then chocolate chips on next.  Pour the sweetened condensed milk into a sturdy plastic zippered bag, then zip to close.  Snip off one small corner, then drizzle the condensed milk over all the last layer.  Bake at 325 or 350 for 25 minutes approximately.  Cool completely, then cut into squares and enjoy!

These are one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE treats! I haven't had one since we moved to California. I'll have to whip some up tonight. Thanks for the inspiration!

Oh those do look like a yummy little treat. Did you make those for a fun occasion or just because?

That looks so delicious and so unhealthy! I probably should never make it because I know I would just eat it all and then regret it.

Are these the same thing as Magic Bars? (layers of graham crackers with butter, choc. chips, coconut, nuts, and evap milk?) If so, I love them too! Freezing them is a great idea.

Yes, Bobbi. Same thing. There are a lot of names for these. Lonna, I made them for fun, then to take to Lindsey's choir concert at school. I made two pans, which about 60 of them. I wish I hadn't taken all of them to the school now because they sound tasty.

I LOVE Hello Dollies! I grew up calling them "Magic Cookie Bars", which I think suits them perfectly -- their taste is truly MAGIC!
