Happy Valentines Day

Valentines Day this year was delightful! Kelly bought this pretty card for me that was so adorable that I wanted to post it here. Hopefully nobody will think it too mushy of me to add. The front of the card with the beaded and metal embellishments must have reminded him of me from all the cards I enjoy making because he has never bought a card quite like this, which is what made his selection so unique. As you can see, it says, "My favorite moments have one beautiful detail in common--" Open the card and it says, "YOU!" I loved this valentine from my sweetheart.

Our dinner party started off with Chris & Sherrie and Tom & Carol Ann picking us up, then we stopped by RuthAnn's house to get her. Her Romeo is on military duty with the Army Reserves, and we didn't want Cupid to miss her, so we took her along with us. RuthAnn wanted to see my new blouse, so that's why I'm "flashing" it.
Chris and Sherrie and the rest of us are waiting for our table for seven at North by Northwest. Somehow they screwed up our reservation and thought it was for two. Fortunately we only had to wait a few minutes. A seven kind of looks like a two, right?
Carol Ann and Tom live a few houses over from Sherrie and Chris and this was our first time to meet Tom and go out with them. Carol Ann and I have gotten together a couple of times and I am happy to have them as new friends through Chris and Sherrie and RuthAnn. Doesn't he look a bit like Val Kilmer?
Here's lovely RuthAnn sans Gustavo, her husband.
We were taking all kinds of pictures and Carol Ann took a picture of my pedicure so I did too. That's when Sherrie, such a true blonde, had her epiphany over why I was wearing red shoes and carrying a red purse, making the Valentine's Day connection suddenly. I should send Haley my awesome nail salon expert, a link to my blog and how her work was being admired. She does an excellent job and I enjoy have the luxury of her expertise on occasion. I'm self-conscious of my feet, so it helps to have a professional make them look better. How did I get off on a tangent about pedicures on a Valentine's post? Sorry.
Chris drove and his plush sports utility vehicle had heated leather seats, which warmed our bottoms up because it got rather chili that night. The red shoes didn't seem practical by now.
Carol Ann took a ton of pictures, so that made me love her even more because I always do too. We had so much fun and the food was excellent.
RuthAnn just finished her Tiramisu and was happy.
Tom and Kelly were official members of the clean plate club. Three of us asked for boxes to take home the rest. Carol Ann forgot her box and went back to get it-- it had been pitched already, after only about a minute. She was bummed. My kids ended up eating the steak, potatoes, and asparagus that I brought home and loved it. I ate so much of the appetizer and salad that by the time my entrée arrived, I was no longer hungry. We shared a lot of laughter that night and learned random trivia about my friends and their families. Make sure you never say "I was full" or Carol Ann's grandmother or mom will cringe.
What a good looking couple Sherrie and Chris are.
Kelly started Valentines Day two days early by bringing me two dozen red roses. He brought Lindsey a bouquet of colorful carnations that look so bright and cheerful on her desk in her bedroom. For Christopher, Daddy brought him a big mylar balloon which he loved. He also got really sweet valentine cards for them and his parents. What a guy. He's such a thoughtful husband, dad, and son!
Since we knew we would be gone for dinner, I made breakfast at 6:30 am for everyone and Kelly woke up early to join us. It was a really wonderful day and the kids loved the special family breakfast because we rarely eat that meal together. LOVE was in the air at our home on February 14. I hope YOU had a delightful, romantic, and special Valentines Day with the ones you love.

It looks like you had a great time on V-Day. What a fun idea to go out with friends. Ashley sent me a v-day card that I think she made at your card camp, it was soooooo cute. A pink, green, white and black one. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I loved it.

Yes, Mandi. That's one of the cards we made. I loved that one too. It was fun to have Ashley here! One card we did had a little turquoise gem on it...that I learned about from YOU! I love those. Plus they're cheap!
Kelly, your Valentine's Day looked fun and romantic. I also loved the shirt, and red toes are always fabulous. Thanks for doing card camp, we all love your cards. I'm glad I could go and I'm glad Mandi liked the card.

Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan....

San Antonio temple weekend

Here am I (five months pregnant), with Hannah, Kelly, Lindsey, and Christopher, walking out of the San Antonio temple after our new daughter was sealed to us for time and for all eternity during a special, sacred ceremony, this past Saturday afternoon.  We were happy to have a wonderful group of guests in attendance with us, Kelly's two sisters, Debbie and Brenda, my sister, Julie, Kelly's mom and dad, my mom, my good friends Lorraine and Stewart, Carol and Rick, and one person from our ward, my buddy, Sue. Dinner later that night consisted of a feast at the Salt Lick in Driftwood, Texas, for some incredible pork ribs, cole slaw, and more. We strolled along the Riverwalk to show our visiting family members one of San Antonio's popular tourist spots.  It was a beautiful, windy day, the Saturday following Thanksgiving, in San Antonio.  We tried to find a corner with less wind to blow in our faces.  More photos of the family.  The family, strolling along th...

Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party!

Hopefully this title, Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party , does not sound irreverent, because as an Activity Days leader, I felt compelled to come up with a fun end-of-the-summer event that is also uplifting, and after all, who doesn't love a splash in the pool on a hot day in August?  My current church calling, or official role that I volunteer for, allows me to plan two activities each month for girls ages 8 to 11, that will encourage them to learn and live the gospel, serve others, and use the talents Heavenly Father has given them, to learn to do many good things.  This year's seminary course of study for high school students is The Book of Mormon, and since I am a huge fan of this inspired book of scripture, I came up with this idea to have each girl show up to my house with a written summary of one of her favorite stories from within its many pages, and share it with the rest of the girls, while outside in our swimsuits near our backyard swimming pool!  As each girl ...
