Happy birthday to me!

Kelly took off from work early today and we drove to San Antonio, grabbed some dinner at Chili's, then went to the temple for a wonderful evening together, listening to Pod Quizzes on the way home. (Gabby took this photo of us in October, by the way.)Kelly and my mom gave me flowers. I was not surprised by Kelly getting me flowers, but was blown away that Mom did. She really surprised me. They're lovely (the lilies). Thank you to both! I adore fresh flowers!
Unfortunately, one of our two a/c units went out, so I got to spend more than $TWO GRAND today getting a new coil. When I complained that it wasn't my idea for a birthday gift to the worker who was installing it, he reminded me that air conditioning is a luxury and many people live their lives without any a/c at all. Okay, I'll stop complaining. I went with Longhorn Heating and Air because I'm a Longhorn fan.
Paige (and her sweet little kids) stopped by to bring me the nicest note card and an adorable apron with an embroidered turkey on it. Thanks, Paige! You're a treasure of a friend.
I can't wait to wear this on Thanksgiving!
My buddy Adele treated me to lunch at Z Tejas AND some beautiful mother-of-pearl and silver earrings from Silpada. We had an excellent lunch today. I ordered a chicken chili relleno and she ordered a delicious looking salad.
It was a nice day and I feel very loved. I'm half way to 90! When my dad called me today to wish me a HB, he reminded me that I threw a birthday party for him when he was 45. I told him that I thought he was old back then. It's all relative. He's 71 now. I'm not the type of person who gets all weird about my age. It is what it is! I don't feel old! I forced myself to step on the scale today though, which was probably not the best thing to do on my birthday, but I've been avoiding it for a LONG time. I wigged out to see that I've gained 25 pounds of the 40 pounds that I lost a few years ago. I'm getting disgusted with feeling like this and being wiped out plus all my clothes fitting too tightly, so I need to get moving. Hmmm, if I tried hard and made an effort, I could drop 15 pounds by the end of the year, then only be 10 pounds up.

Thank you for the birthday emails and phone calls from Patty, Shana, Danielle, Marc, Tracy, Valerie, Julie, Kim, Paige, Robin, Daddy, Michele, Tina, Marlene (mom-in-law), and Deb. I appreciate y'all!

Happy Birthday Kelly! I am glad you had a great day. I wouldn't care about my age either if I looked as good as you do at 45. I agree with you 2 grand on fixing your A/C isn't the greatest gift.

Happy Birthday Kelly! I have to say a night at the temple sounds like a great way to spend it, however not so much Chili's- once I got food poisoning and can never eat there again! Sorry about the A/C unit. You and your hubby look so great!

Hi!
got your message today... thx for our 'phone tag'!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the photo of you and Kelly! That's super good of you, and totally cute how he's snuggling you! That should be on the cover of an album just of "couple stuff", and also in a beautiful little frame (I'd pick silver) on your nightstand.

That's .02 from ~ Tina today!
p.s.
don't forget it's at least a b-day week! Cheers!

Happy Birthday. You look so fantastic. I love that picture of you and Kelly. I am glad that you were able to spend some time together and at the temple. I love Chili's especially the molton cake. That is too bad about the A/C. Ours went out too this week, however we didn't have to pay to fix it. Can you imagine the pioneers living without A/C? I know that I was complaining that we had to use just the fans for a day. I feel spoiled after reading this post.

I hope that you continue celebrating for the rest of the week. That is what Kim would do.

Triathlon triumph

Are you kidding me? A triathlon and I have never belonged in the same sentence. It must have been time for something new! (The "BEFORE" race shot, with goggles and swim cap in hand.) What an unforgettable week this was! I actually DID enter my first triathlon, with the goal of simply finishing it. Take note of the emphasis on the word FIRST, because I loved it so much, that you can guarantee that there will be more. It was a blast. Seriously. My friends Lorraine and Robin had trained and signed up to do the event, which was two days ago, on Saturday. Three days beforehand, I heard about it and basically had a spontaneous urge to join them, so I registered. The only partial preparation ahead of time that I had been doing was cycling in the neighborhood here and there on my mountain bike with some other friends. And doing some micro-laps in our backyard pool. Our friend, Dave, was also there. The three of us women appreciated Dave's encouragement and support, as he's ...

The BIG REVEAL!

We LOVE our new pool! There are a couple of problems that need to be fixed, so we're crossing our fingers that they get it done right, and soon, considering we have given them the final check for the balance of the pool, and we don't have any leverage. Three of the waterfalls work. This is the main one and I like the natural look. Below, here's the deep end waterfall, and it's flows nicely. The water sheer like this one, that flows into the shallow beach area, is the fall that is not working. It's frustrating, but hopefully they'll fix it soon. The fountain in the spa is blocked too. Here's the small rock waterfall, which works just great. It took about 18 hours to fill the pool and we practically watched it gallon by gallon. I stayed up all night long, making sure it didn't overflow. We swim in it every day. Last night we went on a midnight swim and it was beautiful. The water temperature is perfect. I'm extremely thankful that we have our new...

Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan....
