Thanksgiving weekend with Aubrey

(A pre-Thanksgiving gratuitous photo insert) This festive little turkey cupcake was from the local Sunshine Bakery and I dedicate this photo to my friend, Megan, in Michigan, who actually created her OWN sweets in the same fashion for Thanksgiving. Martha, as her Thanksgiving guests affectionately referred to her, is Paige's sister, by the way.Our niece came to visit for the weekend and we enjoyed having her come to Texas from Oklahoma. Here is Aubrey with Christopher at Rudy's dining on some sliced beef sandwiches. We went to Mount Bonnell for a night time view of the 360 bridge.
Here's Aubrey with Lindsey and Christopher on a chilly autumn night.
We went to the Texas History Museum where everything is done to the extreme with a Texas theme, even the tables in the on-site cafe where we had an ice cream treat. We took Aubrey to see Enchanted earlier in the day, then had lunch at La Madeleine, prior to spending the rest of the afternoon here, closing the place down.
Remembering the Alamo, in gingerbread medium. Check out the Shredded Wheat roof.
Kelly and Lindsey are waiting to see the show in the Spirit of Texas theater at the Bob Bullock museum.
Aubrey and Christopher awaiting the exciting show too.
We wanted to see something at the IMAX, but the only thing showing was Polar Express. Um, thanks, but no thanks.
Yvette invited us over for Thanksgiving, and everyone was seated away from their family members to encourage mingling. Very hip and social concept that I think is a nice twist.
Jennifer made place cards for everyone.
Christopher got assigned to the barstool area with some of his friends.
Aubrey and Lindsey got put at a table together, and Kelly was at a table in the dining room, and I didn't remember to take their photo because they were in the food line when I took pictures. I had started dining on my mouth-watering plate of goodness when their table guests had sat down, and by then, I had forgotten. He was there, really!
Yvette is whipping up some gravy just before we got started. Jared is happy that dinner's almost ready.
Okay, here's evidence that Kelly was there too. Lindsey drove over by herself in my car. She is a licensed driver now. It's really a scary thought.
The anticipation of the feast was building, just after 2:30 in the afternoon, while Dee Dee mashes some potatoes and Lauren models her new haircut.
Aubrey isn't sure what to think about being in a room full of complete strangers, but smiles for the camera anyway. What a good sport.
Aubrey refused to pose with a Hook 'Em gesture, having lived her entire 28 years of life in Sooner Country, Norman, Oklahoma. (OU sucks! Sorry, I don't usually say that word, but it's something that we hear a lot around here. Okay, so they're not that bad. I'll be cheering for the Big Red tomorrow for the Big 12 Championship. Just this once.)

Aubrey and I picked out some flowers to take to Yvette as our host with the most. I arranged them myself, but don't really have a clue how to do it. Mandi, I could really use your expertise! Like Heidi, I would also enjoy taking a class for this.

Thanks for visiting us, Aubrey!

I saw some familiar faces in your pictures. That was a huge group- how fun. You got to see the finished version of the gingerbread Alamo. I thought that thing was too cute. Too bad we didn't run into each other.

Kelly, Thanks so much for the shout out on the blog. It made my day!! I have to admit, Paige sent me the picture of the turkey. I never could have come up with it on my own. Your THanksgiving sounds like it was so fun and the food looked really good.

It looks like you showed Aubrey the great classics, and I was glad to see that they washed their hands before eating. The Thanksgiving day festivities looked fun, and what a large group, no wonder that you didn't find Kelly until after the party. Someone could have gotten lost in that crowd.

I'm so sad I wasn't able to come visit, too. It's unfortunate that airfare was so expensive, otherwise I would have. Ah well, maybe next time. Spring break?

Looks like a fun Thanksgiving with such a big group of people! I love big get togethers for holidays. Sounds like you showed Aubrey all the good Austin places. There are so many great places here to take out of town guests!
Looks like a fun filled week with food, family and fun! What could be better!!

What a fun-filled Tgiving!!! Ok, did you love the Spirit of Texas presentation or what?! I laughed so hard I almost peed my pants because when the insects came I screamed. Then, the rattlesnake came on my chair and snapped me and I screamed louder and jumped and between me and Josh and my Mom....we couldn't stop laughing the rest of the day. I think I embarrassed everyone :) But it was great.

And I looove Christopher's glasses. Very stylish and estudious!!!

Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party!

Hopefully this title, Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party , does not sound irreverent, because as an Activity Days leader, I felt compelled to come up with a fun end-of-the-summer event that is also uplifting, and after all, who doesn't love a splash in the pool on a hot day in August?  My current church calling, or official role that I volunteer for, allows me to plan two activities each month for girls ages 8 to 11, that will encourage them to learn and live the gospel, serve others, and use the talents Heavenly Father has given them, to learn to do many good things.  This year's seminary course of study for high school students is The Book of Mormon, and since I am a huge fan of this inspired book of scripture, I came up with this idea to have each girl show up to my house with a written summary of one of her favorite stories from within its many pages, and share it with the rest of the girls, while outside in our swimsuits near our backyard swimming pool!  As each girl shares

Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan.  Who would have thoug

Elder Larson to return from Thailand soon

Soon is relative, I suppose. Our son has been away from home more than a year and a half as he has been volunteering as a full-time missionary in the Thailand Bangkok Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since September 14, 2016. He will be home in four months and is working so hard, knowing his time there is winding down. He has been assigned to train Elder Ben Meyer, from Sydney, Australia, as they serve in Ubon, Thailand. Christopher has been there since November. We are very proud of his dedication and hard work. This week in Thailand, the new prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, with his wife, Wendy Nelson, along with one of the Twelve Apostles, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, and his wife, Patricia Holland, will be on their world ministering tour and be where our son is. The Church members and missionaries in Thailand are very excited and happy for this special visit! I can't wait to hear how it goes, and I look forward to pictures and stories to come.
