My new 'do'

For months, I've been contemplating cutting my long hair, and this afternoon on a whim, called my daughter's stylist to see if she had an opening today, and she did. I thought that I'd better hurry and go get it cut before I changed my mind. So I had three hours to flake out or come up with an idea. I stopped by Walgreen's magazine rack to look through the In Style, People, Hot Hair Trends, etc., looking for just the right celebrity to attempt to mimic. I saw Katie Holmes last night on TV and her haircut looked cute. Diane Keaton's did too, but heck, she's 62 years old. I called Paige and asked for her advice. She said to go short. I called Valerie and she agreed, and actually specifically referred to Katie's do. Then I called Julie and she said to go long, and have long flowing bangs on the sides and cut the layers a bit more, taking about an inch off the length. She thought my face might be too chubby (my words, not hers) to pull off the shorter look. Minutes before stepping into Lisa's salon, (Paige goes there too, by the way), I called Valerie again, and Valerie said to go for it. Don't be so conservative. So, this look is obviously the one I decided on, and I think I like it, for a change. The cost was half as much as my stylist who normally cuts it.

I really like it. I have seen so many cute short hair cut styles and it makes me want to go short. You go girl. Lovin' it.

WOW, I love it. It looks really really good. It is scary at first to cut it off, but I am glad you went for it. What does the back look like?

Nice choice I too have been looking into the Katie Holmes look. But I drag my feet on stuff like that. I think that it looks so good on you. Don't you love that you got a great cut and didn't break the bank. Think of all the time, and hair product that you will save.

I didn't really go for the Katie Holmes look, as she has bangs, but I did think she looks really darling with short hair.

Yes, Lonna, I'm already loving how much time, hair products, etc., this shorter style is going to take.

Looks great, Aunt Kelly! I love it. My good friend Megan just cut her hair like that, too. What a coincidence!

Way cute Kelly!! And I don't think it makes your face look chubby at all. I worried about that too, especially with all my pregnancy weight, but I think your new do looks awesome. I used to go to Lisa also- I love her prices and I always thought she did a good job. Way to be brave!

It looks fantastic! I'm sad I didn't have a chance to tell you in person today. That didn't stop me from admiring it from the back of the room though! I've been meaning to cut mine short sometime...

I think it looks so good! Your hair was shorter when I was in your ward so that is what I am used to on you

Your hair looks fab!!!!! I don't think it makes your face look chubby at all. In fact, it defines your amazingly beautiful facial shape and Thompson dimples. Why I thought it would be the wrong thing for you is beyond me....

I got mine cut again today. We are almost twins... just I have bangs in addition to the inverted "bob" type of cut. Until today, mine was even more extreme with the longer in front thing, but as it grew these past 6 weeks, I liked that less and less - so today I asked her to cut off my "tails"... it's still longer in front, but not as "Posh" - more Katie H.

I think your hair looks great, Kelly! I'm excited to see it in person on Tuesday. So chic right now!

Cute hair Kelly! Love it :) I recently cut mine off. I'm still trying to get used to it and figure out how in the heck to fix it. I colored it too so it's quite a change for me. Change is good.....right?!

Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan....

San Antonio temple weekend

Here am I (five months pregnant), with Hannah, Kelly, Lindsey, and Christopher, walking out of the San Antonio temple after our new daughter was sealed to us for time and for all eternity during a special, sacred ceremony, this past Saturday afternoon.  We were happy to have a wonderful group of guests in attendance with us, Kelly's two sisters, Debbie and Brenda, my sister, Julie, Kelly's mom and dad, my mom, my good friends Lorraine and Stewart, Carol and Rick, and one person from our ward, my buddy, Sue. Dinner later that night consisted of a feast at the Salt Lick in Driftwood, Texas, for some incredible pork ribs, cole slaw, and more. We strolled along the Riverwalk to show our visiting family members one of San Antonio's popular tourist spots.  It was a beautiful, windy day, the Saturday following Thanksgiving, in San Antonio.  We tried to find a corner with less wind to blow in our faces.  More photos of the family.  The family, strolling along th...

Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party!

Hopefully this title, Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party , does not sound irreverent, because as an Activity Days leader, I felt compelled to come up with a fun end-of-the-summer event that is also uplifting, and after all, who doesn't love a splash in the pool on a hot day in August?  My current church calling, or official role that I volunteer for, allows me to plan two activities each month for girls ages 8 to 11, that will encourage them to learn and live the gospel, serve others, and use the talents Heavenly Father has given them, to learn to do many good things.  This year's seminary course of study for high school students is The Book of Mormon, and since I am a huge fan of this inspired book of scripture, I came up with this idea to have each girl show up to my house with a written summary of one of her favorite stories from within its many pages, and share it with the rest of the girls, while outside in our swimsuits near our backyard swimming pool!  As each girl ...
