On Saturday, I went to see Jon and his new bride, Sarah. He's the first in the family to marry, and I'm his mother's visiting teacher. They got married eight days previously, then went on a cruise for their honeymoon, then came to Austin for an open house at his parents' home.
Jon and Sarah make a charming couple and I wish them the best. They will move to Baltimore where Jon will start a new job with Lockheed Martin in two weeks. Plus he just graduated. That's a lot of to celebrate in one month, but there were still more big events for the family.
Besides Jon, his younger brother, Christian, also graduated from college, and his sister, Lauren, did, from high school. By the way, Dee Dee did an incredible job on the food for the open house. Not only was the presentation lovely, it was just as mouthwateringly scrumptious to enjoy. Take a look at how she pierced each little mini tortilla, then tied it with a chive stem. I love details like this. The skewered tomatoes and cheese were heavenly.
Shauna put together the floral arrangements, her work is always so natural and elegant. We have many talented women in our congregation from church. My visit for this month for Sue, was to help with decorating her home for this evening, so I spent a couple of hours with Joy, Heidi, and Shawna getting things set up earlier that day. Usually Sue and I have a standing once-a-month lunch rendez-vous to various restaurants for our visiting teaching appointments, but it was physically hard to squeeze it in for May with all that she had to juggle, plan for, and attend.
Here's Sue next to her husband, Doug, both who were talking to two different people when I snapped this picture quickly before heading to the Saturday evening session of stake conference. Doug is a gem--he's the one who planted the seed in Kelly's mind to procure for me the package to Lake Austin Spa last Christmas. This was the Sue who went with me. They're such a sweet couple and I am glad to have them as friends.
Speaking of friends, my friend, Yvette, has really good-looking kids too. Lindsey and Christopher are really close friends with the two on the outsides, Matthew and Julia. Jennifer, in the middle, is their oldest daughter and was in Kelly's Sunday School class a few years ago. She's a recent graduate of the University of Texas. Yay, Jennifer!
Now back to Sue and Doug's family, here's the babe of the family, Zach. He just became an Eagle Scout in May, to add to the month's significant events for their family. Congratulations, Zach! 
Here's the bride and groom, socializing and probably wishing this party would end so they could sit down and put on some comfy clothes again. I was heading out the door and couldn't resist snapping one last picture.
But not before I captured one pose of the beautiful Lauren, the high school graduate, and previously a smiling face in my Mia Maid and Laurel class, and not to forget, Activity Days group when we first moved to Texas. I have known this young women (and her family) for eight years and I am delighted to know each one of them.
Then I drove to the stake center on Rutherford. Since I showed up about 20 minutes before it started, I snuck in a quick pic of these floral baskets that were in front of the podium as I was a couple of rows away. It didn't seem irreverent as nothing had officially begun. I thought the flowers looked festive and cheerful and wanted to "take a picture to make it last longer."
