It's my birthday!

Here's a cute little picture of me in kindergarten, 1968. All my life, I've never forgotten this shot below in first grade (1969) when the photog asked me to say "peaches" and he snapped the shot at the "ch" sound. If you're trying to get a kid to smile, don't tell them to say peaches. It's scarred me for life.
Mom, what the heck happened to my hair? Did I fix it myself? After all, I was in second grade and very capable. My grandma crocheted that groovy vest for me, but who is responsible for the hack job on my hair? Hello, 1970!
Who knows where my third grade picture is. We moved so often, changing schools, that I might have missed picture day. Next is my fourth grade mug shot. I must have sworn off bangs by then. Thank goodness for those plastic barrettes to deal with the in-between length.
Notice how every year I wore green? Yeah, it's been my favorite color for as long as I can remember. I don't have an actual school pic of me in fifth grade (Christopher's current grade), but here's a shot of me with my best friend, Ellen, in 1973. I was taller than everyone in my class.
So today I'm 46. Woohoo! I've been married to Kelly for half my life now, we got married when I was 23. On this day, I want to express my thanks to everyone I know and care for, for being my friend or family member and being a part of my life. Some of you didn't have a choice, but in any case, "I love all y'all!" And for all you youngins', there was a time that foot rugs as wall art was very stylish, as you can see on my wall in my bedroom here. Very in.

I had a foot rug! Hang ten baby!

So, happy birthday Kelly. A very cool post indeed, it is fun to see these old photos. And that kindergarten photo is precious. You're hair was insanely long there in 5th.

So what happened to the teen pics? Can we hope to see those next year? Gotta love the late 70's and early 80's.

Any way, have a great day today on your special day!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! You were so cute and I can certainly see why you grew up to be so pretty. I have a crazy picture in the 7th grade. Everything about that picture was horrible, my hair and my lack of ability to apply make-up correctly. I lived through it but I still don't like to look at the picture. :) Oh well....Hope your birthday was wonderful and please post pics.

I was totally going to call all day yesterday. It was a busy day. We had to go pick up Macy from the Vet. She had ACL repair surgery on Tuesday (blog post coming today or tomorrow) and she is very high maintenance.

Anyway, I am sure you had a great day. I hope your year is just as wonderful. Love you tons!

Ahh the memories of looking through the ol' school photos. I think that you have such a great smile.

I hope that you did have a good birthday, even though it was spent running around and sewing cards for other people. You are so great.

Okay - not until the 4th grade pic did I really see "you" in those photos..., the 2nd grade hair was hilarious! Love it!
The foot rug... tears are falling from my eyes!
(I also agree that the "clown" is creapy!)
keep up the celebration... you've got all month according to my definition!
LOVE the photo progression! SO CUTE! :-D Happy Birthday, Kelly! (I already said that, but it can't hurt to say it again. It didn't hurt, actually.)

Yay! After 36 years, I reconnected with my BFF, Ellen through Facebook. I haven't seen her or had any idea what she looked like as an adult until now. I've got to show her this post from almost two years ago.

Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan....

San Antonio temple weekend

Here am I (five months pregnant), with Hannah, Kelly, Lindsey, and Christopher, walking out of the San Antonio temple after our new daughter was sealed to us for time and for all eternity during a special, sacred ceremony, this past Saturday afternoon.  We were happy to have a wonderful group of guests in attendance with us, Kelly's two sisters, Debbie and Brenda, my sister, Julie, Kelly's mom and dad, my mom, my good friends Lorraine and Stewart, Carol and Rick, and one person from our ward, my buddy, Sue. Dinner later that night consisted of a feast at the Salt Lick in Driftwood, Texas, for some incredible pork ribs, cole slaw, and more. We strolled along the Riverwalk to show our visiting family members one of San Antonio's popular tourist spots.  It was a beautiful, windy day, the Saturday following Thanksgiving, in San Antonio.  We tried to find a corner with less wind to blow in our faces.  More photos of the family.  The family, strolling along th...

Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party!

Hopefully this title, Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party , does not sound irreverent, because as an Activity Days leader, I felt compelled to come up with a fun end-of-the-summer event that is also uplifting, and after all, who doesn't love a splash in the pool on a hot day in August?  My current church calling, or official role that I volunteer for, allows me to plan two activities each month for girls ages 8 to 11, that will encourage them to learn and live the gospel, serve others, and use the talents Heavenly Father has given them, to learn to do many good things.  This year's seminary course of study for high school students is The Book of Mormon, and since I am a huge fan of this inspired book of scripture, I came up with this idea to have each girl show up to my house with a written summary of one of her favorite stories from within its many pages, and share it with the rest of the girls, while outside in our swimsuits near our backyard swimming pool!  As each girl ...
