A blast from the past--our Christmas five & six years ago

Kelly's first digital camera seemed completely foreign to me. I found it difficult to grasp the idea of not using film to store pictures. Most of our older pictures were taken on my camera, which was not digital. However, we do have a few old digital pictures, beginning in 2000, thanks to Kelly's "modern" camera that I like to pull up on my computer and add to the blog now and then. It seemed strange a few years ago, but now most people only take digital pictures, myself included. Here, just a few years later, the digital images are the ones at my fingertips. Who knows where the negatives are for most of my old photos? This particular family photo was taken six years ago by my friend, Sherrie, in December 2001. We had her take a bunch of shots on my camera with film, for our Christmas photo that year. After that, Kelly asked Sherrie to take just a couple more shots on his digital camera. By then, the kids were tired of smiling and posing, as you can see in their exhausted expressions below. It's better than nothing! I could always go dig through boxes in the closet of the negatives, but that probably won't happen.
Look at my handsome little Christopher, from five years ago, in December, 2001.
Here's little Lindsey in December, 2001, doing her school work back when I used to braid her hair all the time. She was such a blonde, even much more than evident in this picture, then after we moved to Texas, it got darker and darker.
Here is Kelly skating on Ryan's Gulch in Colorado on a chilly December day in 2001.
Six years ago, here is Christopher and Grandma in December of 2000, at Kelly's parents house where we often go for Christmas.
On our way to and from Colorado for Christmas, we usually stop in Oklahoma to see Aunt Tracy, and Uncle Jimmy, my sister and her husband. We stopped in downtown Oklahoma City back in January 2002, five years ago, where Tracy works and had lunch in Bricktown at a Mexican restaurant before making our way back to Austin.
Kelly's parents' home is so fun for the kids to visit with a lake in their back yard. In the winter, it makes a massive ice rink. Here, it looks like someone, probably Grandpa, just cleared snow for the ice skaters to enjoy.
Here we are with our friends, Mark and Carol, while their new house in Loveland was under construction. Mark and Kelly grew up together and went to high school together. Kelly went off to BYU while Mark headed to the Air Force Academy.

They got married the same year as us and we both have two kids, one of each. Mark is a now a pilot for United Airlines and previously served in the military as a captain, and flew fighter planes during Desert Storm. They were stationed in Texas while we lived in Colorado, and we kept telling them to move back. Now we live in Texas, while they live in Colorado. Crazy! We try to get together with them every time we go back and always consider them our dear friends. This was in 2000, six years ago.
In 2000, the first year we moved to Texas, we got to go to dinner and a movie with our friends Leo and Rita from Fort Collins. Kelly used to work with Leo at Hewlett-Packard. Rita is a real estate agent and listed our old house in Fort Collins when we moved and helped to negotiate a decent sale for us.
Kelly's mom bought animal print pajamas for her two daughters and me. Kelly is the only boy in his family and has two sisters. Here we are on Christmas morning in 2000, me in my zebra pajamas, Kelly showing off a new Christmas tie. I really wish I had a lot more digital pictures from the past to share and listened to Kelly's advice on how much better they would be.

So fun! Your kiddies are mini- I love it. You could always scan old photos into the computer to have them online.

Isn't it crazy to look back at technology and see how fast everything is changing?

True...it's on my big never ending task list, along with scrapbooking.

I remember getting my first cell phone and thinking I was so cool. It's true...technology changes so fast. When we built our house, we had all this wiring added for speakers, etc. Now there's all this wireless stuff. It's bizarre.

Hi! Thanks for the comments on my blog. I love your hair short, and seeing the kiddos so small is extra cute!

I'm with Conni...I LOVE your short hair! Wow, you look gorgeous no matter what. I love all these pics and hairdos. I love the zebra pj's. And that first pic still has me laughing of Christopher and Lindsey's expressions. And the parents are happy :) Isn't that always the case. This was a fun post!

I'm so glad you posted these pictures from the past! How fun! It must be the New Year that makes us reminisce on the past b/c the other night I was looking through my old scrapbooks from 1998, etc. It's neat to see your kids when they were little. Hard to believe how grown up they are now and that one day I'll be saying the same thing about Sheridan!

How fun to see old pics of you guys! Kelly, how do you stay so young?? Seriously, it's like your hair changes and you don't. Maybe it's a secret ingredient in Pampered Chef tools! That would be great selling point.

Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party!

Hopefully this title, Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party , does not sound irreverent, because as an Activity Days leader, I felt compelled to come up with a fun end-of-the-summer event that is also uplifting, and after all, who doesn't love a splash in the pool on a hot day in August?  My current church calling, or official role that I volunteer for, allows me to plan two activities each month for girls ages 8 to 11, that will encourage them to learn and live the gospel, serve others, and use the talents Heavenly Father has given them, to learn to do many good things.  This year's seminary course of study for high school students is The Book of Mormon, and since I am a huge fan of this inspired book of scripture, I came up with this idea to have each girl show up to my house with a written summary of one of her favorite stories from within its many pages, and share it with the rest of the girls, while outside in our swimsuits near our backyard swimming pool!  As each girl shares

Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan.  Who would have thoug

Elder Larson to return from Thailand soon

Soon is relative, I suppose. Our son has been away from home more than a year and a half as he has been volunteering as a full-time missionary in the Thailand Bangkok Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since September 14, 2016. He will be home in four months and is working so hard, knowing his time there is winding down. He has been assigned to train Elder Ben Meyer, from Sydney, Australia, as they serve in Ubon, Thailand. Christopher has been there since November. We are very proud of his dedication and hard work. This week in Thailand, the new prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, with his wife, Wendy Nelson, along with one of the Twelve Apostles, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, and his wife, Patricia Holland, will be on their world ministering tour and be where our son is. The Church members and missionaries in Thailand are very excited and happy for this special visit! I can't wait to hear how it goes, and I look forward to pictures and stories to come.
