American Idol season finale

It's been a week of season finales and I've been watching American Idol faithfully for the past three seasons, and have been a big fan of Blake Lewis from the start. Of course I love Carrie Underwood as she's an Okie, like me, and a country music artist too. This year, I am fine that Jordin Sparks won and think she did really well, (although was hoping for Blake) but am confident that most of the contestants will have a promising future regardless. I especially enjoyed this season's big finale show and was excited and surprised to see my cousin, the lead singer of Green Day, performing. Billie Joe sang a beautiful John Lennon ballad and I was thrilled to see him appear on American Idol. It's awesome to have such a successful and talented cousin and I'm very proud of him. Way to go, Billie Joe! (Not that he ever looks at my blog.)Billie Joe has been generous with us and provided Kelly and me with the best seats in the house for years at his concerts and the last time they were in San Antonio (a year and a half ago on our 19th anniversary) we thought Lindsey was old enough to go to her first Green Day concert with us. We have watched Billie, Mike, and Tre, and their former drummer, John, from back in the time when we lived in Colorado and the band came driving through town in their van--when they were all still minors--playing in venues not much bigger than a high school gym. I remember them silk screening t-shirts in our garage as their only source of income, and they camped out before hitting the road and heading off to their next gig and next mosh pit to play before. They continued to get bigger and more popular and appeared on television late night shows, and then the day I saw my cousin's face on the cover of The Rolling Stone, it finally hit me how far he'd come. His dad, Uncle Andy, would have been proud! I know all the rest of us are.

I would like to see Green Day record some more mellow songs like the Beatles song they performed on American Idol because it really shows off Billie's vocal range, and my husband wouldn't have to edit out all the f-words from tracks like American Idiot, for us to listen to with the kids. I also wish Billie wasn't too busy because I never get to see him at family events any more and that's pretty sad. Fame has a way of making people become somewhat reclusive, unfortunately. I wish him well and love him...and also his brothers and sisters (Anna, Hollie, and Marci, David and Alan) and their mom (Aunt Ollie, my mom's sister) all whom I got to see in February, which was a lot of fun.

Now my one complaint about American Idol's season finale, other than having to see that disgusting, obese yellow chicken lady again, wobbling up onto the stage and smashing Ryan Seacrest, is that our DVR recorded only 2 hours and 3 minutes of the show, which was not enough, and we didn't actually see the final results to show who won! We had to look up on the Internet to see if Blake or Jordin won, but didn't get to see the actual ending. It was frustrating that the show went over by so much time. We even had the DVR set up for three extra minutes in case it went over, but that was obviously not long enough.

I didn't watch the finale, except for the last few minutes. So I missed Green Day (and everybody) perform. I was happy Jordin won, but I also liked Blake a lot.

I missed the finale, too, and am
sad now that I did because it would have been fun to see Green Day perform and know that is your cousin!

I have to say that I was traveling and I missed the last show as well, but I like you watched the final results online. It was not as exciting that way, but it did the trick. I was really hoping for Blake. I feel like he is so original for what singers the show has produced so far. Oh well I guess that we will still see something from him in the future. I also thing that is really neat that your cousin stays semi in touch! what a fun cousin to have.

I didn't watch much of American Idol, but I have to admit that I was impressed with Blake's performance of that Bon Jovi song. It was easily the most confident performance I've seen from someone on American Idol. Jordin sounded like just more of the same ol' stuff.

P.S. That's cool that Billie Joe is your cousin. I remember eigth grade shop class when someone introduced me to Dookie. That album was the start of my punk phase, which lasted all through high school.

I have been on vacation, so my comments are a bit late. My DVR did the same thing!!! I missed the last minute or so of the final results. I saw it in the paper the next day. I was glad Jordin won. Blake was my favorite most of the time, but the last few shows Jordin proved she had the better voice. Blake won't have any problems with his career. He is awesome!
I miss all our cousins and aunts and uncles. Your Pampered Chef business has been a blessing in your life because it allows you to travel and keep contact with family.

Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party!

Hopefully this title, Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party , does not sound irreverent, because as an Activity Days leader, I felt compelled to come up with a fun end-of-the-summer event that is also uplifting, and after all, who doesn't love a splash in the pool on a hot day in August?  My current church calling, or official role that I volunteer for, allows me to plan two activities each month for girls ages 8 to 11, that will encourage them to learn and live the gospel, serve others, and use the talents Heavenly Father has given them, to learn to do many good things.  This year's seminary course of study for high school students is The Book of Mormon, and since I am a huge fan of this inspired book of scripture, I came up with this idea to have each girl show up to my house with a written summary of one of her favorite stories from within its many pages, and share it with the rest of the girls, while outside in our swimsuits near our backyard swimming pool!  As each girl shares

Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan.  Who would have thoug

Elder Larson to return from Thailand soon

Soon is relative, I suppose. Our son has been away from home more than a year and a half as he has been volunteering as a full-time missionary in the Thailand Bangkok Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since September 14, 2016. He will be home in four months and is working so hard, knowing his time there is winding down. He has been assigned to train Elder Ben Meyer, from Sydney, Australia, as they serve in Ubon, Thailand. Christopher has been there since November. We are very proud of his dedication and hard work. This week in Thailand, the new prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, with his wife, Wendy Nelson, along with one of the Twelve Apostles, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, and his wife, Patricia Holland, will be on their world ministering tour and be where our son is. The Church members and missionaries in Thailand are very excited and happy for this special visit! I can't wait to hear how it goes, and I look forward to pictures and stories to come.
