Day four

The Last Mimzy was a kids' science fiction movie that was somewhat suspenseful, and I think kid pleasing. However, I get really annoyed when ever I hear things like, "Don't tell your parents," or "know one will ever know," and sneakiness. It really bothers me and I don't even like when anyone jokingly or in seriousness tells my kids that. It is teaching them dishonesty, which is the ultimate bad character trait. So, there are a few things in Mimzy that would make me not want my 9-year-old to see it, but other than that, it was fine. It did keep my interest.

So, today I spent a good part of the day shopping around in furniture stores, and bought some attractive bookshelves for my office. When the house was being built, I had my office designed without a closet to make the room larger, however, with all of my Pampered Chef business garb, and all of my stamping hobby goodies, I find it hard to keep things organized and easily accessible. My office is getting transformed. Also, when my fresh-out-of-college designer helped me with my office when we first bought the house, she had envisioned everything that I told her I wanted to my liking, with one exception. She wanted a faux finish in my office in two tones of yellow, and volunteered to do the painting for me. I was so over faux finishes from my first two homes, but this was new to her. After she painted the first wall, I urged her to stop because I strongly disliked it. It has never been repainted in seven years, and the other three walls are painted with just one yellow tone instead of two. I hope I can find the paint color, and paint the one wall tomorrow to get it ready before my new furniture arrives. Luckily, from the front entry of the room, the wall is rarely seen, since it's the entry door wall. Most people never notice it, but I do, and I am rather sick of it.

Tonight, I went out to dinner at Carino's, by myself, which is always kind of strange feeling. I'm having fun being alone, but feel a bit awkward when a host at a restaurant asks, "Just one?" when I've already indicated "just one." It makes me feel kind of desperate. My serendipity for tonight came after having made my selection, and the server had turned my order in, and I noticed an ad on the table, faced opposite of me. It indicated that the item which I had ordered, Shrimp Scampi, was one of the menu selections that was on special through tonight. My server didn't offer this info up on her own, but I asked her to add my freebie as a to go order. I could choose between lasagna or spaghetti and meatballs, having ordered one of the select items. After dining, I took my free lasagna, so lunch or dinner is covered for tomorrow. I would never order either of those in a restaurant, but hey, it was FREE.

I moved my Crate and Barrel off-white cabinet from my office tonight. It was heavy. Having an extra pair of hands and muscles to move furniture is something I take for granted when I'm not alone. I'm too impatient to wait for help. Actually, I'm usually like this and move things by myself all the time, rather than wait for when Kelly gets home. But it seems more obvious during my week of solitude. I did speak to him on the phone today when he was at the water park with his mom and the nieces and nephews and Christopher. Lindsey headed off to camp before dawn.

I hate faux finishes too. That was a yucky stage in decor I think. It is still big here, actually glazed walls are big. Not my thing.
Are you sticking with the curtains?
Can't wait to see the photos of the finished product.

Absolutely, Julie! The curtains are my favorite part of my office. They MAKE the room. That and my beautiful furniture. I love the red and yellow color scheme.

Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party!

Hopefully this title, Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party , does not sound irreverent, because as an Activity Days leader, I felt compelled to come up with a fun end-of-the-summer event that is also uplifting, and after all, who doesn't love a splash in the pool on a hot day in August?  My current church calling, or official role that I volunteer for, allows me to plan two activities each month for girls ages 8 to 11, that will encourage them to learn and live the gospel, serve others, and use the talents Heavenly Father has given them, to learn to do many good things.  This year's seminary course of study for high school students is The Book of Mormon, and since I am a huge fan of this inspired book of scripture, I came up with this idea to have each girl show up to my house with a written summary of one of her favorite stories from within its many pages, and share it with the rest of the girls, while outside in our swimsuits near our backyard swimming pool!  As each girl shares

Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan.  Who would have thoug

Elder Larson to return from Thailand soon

Soon is relative, I suppose. Our son has been away from home more than a year and a half as he has been volunteering as a full-time missionary in the Thailand Bangkok Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since September 14, 2016. He will be home in four months and is working so hard, knowing his time there is winding down. He has been assigned to train Elder Ben Meyer, from Sydney, Australia, as they serve in Ubon, Thailand. Christopher has been there since November. We are very proud of his dedication and hard work. This week in Thailand, the new prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, with his wife, Wendy Nelson, along with one of the Twelve Apostles, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, and his wife, Patricia Holland, will be on their world ministering tour and be where our son is. The Church members and missionaries in Thailand are very excited and happy for this special visit! I can't wait to hear how it goes, and I look forward to pictures and stories to come.
