VIVO Tex Mex!

Adele is a wonderful lunch date--we try out different restaurants in Austin and today we went to a place called Vivo, and selected their lunch combo of a tasty verde enchilada with shredded chicken and a "puffy taco" with ground beef, not to mention quite a few chips and salsa and fresh guacamole, beforehand. Their salsa is a deep, dark red, with a chipotle, smokey full-bodied flavor. The verde sauce had a slight sweetness to it, and the overall taste was tops. It was served with brown rice, my favorite. It wasn't your everyday standard Mexican food that I was expecting. Each of us was given a long-stemmed rose at the end of the meal. The unique, Austin establishment was filled with bold and colorful, a bit eccentric, artwork with oversized paintings of women. I could do without the artwork, but the food is lovely.

After lunch when we headed for the parking lot, Adele's new black Lexus was sandwiched in behind a tortilla delivery truck, blocking a few cars. There was no driver in sight, so Adele ventured off to investigate. She returned to inform me that the truck was still running with the keys in the ignition, and she'd move it herself. While the food was incredible, and left me wanting to return, my favorite adventure of the day was when Adele moved the big tortilla truck forward a few spaces so we could escape. The idea had crossed my mind, that moving the truck ourselves would be a simple solution, but my determined friend, Adele, acted on it. That was priceless, Adele.

kelly that sounds delicious! You should write a restaurant review column for your paper.

How funny that she just hopped in the truck and moved it. I would totally be a chicken and just wait for someone to come and move it, or go in and ask for the assistance of a manager. I think that sounds like a really great adventure. And I am always glad to hear of new and interesting places to eat.

I loved this post. It made me want to be brave like your friend and just "hop in the truck" so to speak when situations like that happen to me. Sounds like lunch was good as well.
that's a great story. sounds like something i might do actually!

a mini version of Thelma & Louise (w/out all the bad stuff!) - just good, brave fun with a girlfriend!

lunch sounds fab too! Wish I lived near you - you know how much I like to "lunch"!

Oh, what a bummer!!! I sure do miss trying out different Austin restaurants though. I'm jealous you got to. The rests here are all the same. Nothing original like Austin.

San Antonio temple weekend

Here am I (five months pregnant), with Hannah, Kelly, Lindsey, and Christopher, walking out of the San Antonio temple after our new daughter was sealed to us for time and for all eternity during a special, sacred ceremony, this past Saturday afternoon.  We were happy to have a wonderful group of guests in attendance with us, Kelly's two sisters, Debbie and Brenda, my sister, Julie, Kelly's mom and dad, my mom, my good friends Lorraine and Stewart, Carol and Rick, and one person from our ward, my buddy, Sue. Dinner later that night consisted of a feast at the Salt Lick in Driftwood, Texas, for some incredible pork ribs, cole slaw, and more. We strolled along the Riverwalk to show our visiting family members one of San Antonio's popular tourist spots.  It was a beautiful, windy day, the Saturday following Thanksgiving, in San Antonio.  We tried to find a corner with less wind to blow in our faces.  More photos of the family.  The family, strolling along th...

The BIG REVEAL!

We LOVE our new pool! There are a couple of problems that need to be fixed, so we're crossing our fingers that they get it done right, and soon, considering we have given them the final check for the balance of the pool, and we don't have any leverage. Three of the waterfalls work. This is the main one and I like the natural look. Below, here's the deep end waterfall, and it's flows nicely. The water sheer like this one, that flows into the shallow beach area, is the fall that is not working. It's frustrating, but hopefully they'll fix it soon. The fountain in the spa is blocked too. Here's the small rock waterfall, which works just great. It took about 18 hours to fill the pool and we practically watched it gallon by gallon. I stayed up all night long, making sure it didn't overflow. We swim in it every day. Last night we went on a midnight swim and it was beautiful. The water temperature is perfect. I'm extremely thankful that we have our new...

Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan....
