Five little angels

What a handful these five little babies are, but what a joy! I was happy to be there today especially because their mommy and grandmother (Betty Ann from Arizona) wanted to take a group picture of them inside the wheelbarrow wearing overalls, so I stuck around to help after my shift ended. Luckily, I had brought my camera, too. I have some of their names matched with their faces. Top left is Rustin, who is easy to remember because he's a redhead, so I think of rust colored hair, which sounds like Rustin. Then the other little boy is Ryder, the one crying. He is adorable. They're all amazing. I'm pretty sure I got to hold each of them at least a couple of times during my three-hour shift today.
Here's the same shot as above in full color. In the front, center is Kyndall. I can't tell which of the other two girls is Kassidy and which is Kaydence.

Here's their sweet mom, Rachelle. Can you believe this skinny woman gave birth to quintuplets about three months ago?
I love black and white, so I wanted to post some in those tones too. The Wilkinsons are so organized and everything was so clean and tidy in their home. I signed up to do an all-night volunteer shift in two weeks, where I get to be up with the babies with one other person from 10 pm to 6 am. I am wiped out from today's three-hour shift and can't imagine how they manage all this, day after day. It's mind-blowing just thinking about trying to deal with five little babies 'round the clock. Sometimes nobody is crying. Then sometimes all of them are. I propped one baby up on my lap and held another. I put two in bouncy seats and bounced them while holding another. It was a lot of work, but I loved every minute of it and truly felt like I had a bit of heaven in my arms when I held these precious little angels.

Wowee! What a handful. They are precious, though, and Rachelle looks so great! I hope I rebound as well someday when I have kids.

The babies are darling. I know how much work it is because my oldest niece had triplets and came to stay with us for a month when they were 6 weeks old. I took one each night, she took one, and a sister-in-law or Carrie took one. And, since she had been unable to conceive w/o the fertility drugs, she didn't use any contraception and became pg and very nauseated) when the triplets were just turning into the terrible twos. It was a nightmare for her. But they are 7 years old now and she survived and is so glad to have them! That's great of you to go help, I am sure they appreciate and need it!

Wow! That mom has to have a sense of humor or she's going to have to find one. That's a neat thing that peolpe are doing for her and her babies.

How fun and totally exhausting! It's no wonder she is so skinny, think about it. Taking care of five babies, who would have time to eat!? How lucky you were to be able to help. Will there be a point in time when she will have the same regular helpers instead of someone new every day?

Ok - now those babies in the wheelbarrow is just too precious for words! I cannot believe how awesome their mother looks, too!

That was so thoughtful of you to help them out! I'm sure it is priceless to them.

They look like quite a handful!! I can't wait to help out. There is something so fun about helping someone with their babies; I think it is because you know that at the end of helping, you can go home and get a good night's sleep. Poor mom doesn't have that option in those first months... or years.
Wow! I can't even imagine how much work that is. I bet they really appreciate you helping out. Nice work!

Triathlon triumph

Are you kidding me? A triathlon and I have never belonged in the same sentence. It must have been time for something new! (The "BEFORE" race shot, with goggles and swim cap in hand.) What an unforgettable week this was! I actually DID enter my first triathlon, with the goal of simply finishing it. Take note of the emphasis on the word FIRST, because I loved it so much, that you can guarantee that there will be more. It was a blast. Seriously. My friends Lorraine and Robin had trained and signed up to do the event, which was two days ago, on Saturday. Three days beforehand, I heard about it and basically had a spontaneous urge to join them, so I registered. The only partial preparation ahead of time that I had been doing was cycling in the neighborhood here and there on my mountain bike with some other friends. And doing some micro-laps in our backyard pool. Our friend, Dave, was also there. The three of us women appreciated Dave's encouragement and support, as he's ...

The BIG REVEAL!

We LOVE our new pool! There are a couple of problems that need to be fixed, so we're crossing our fingers that they get it done right, and soon, considering we have given them the final check for the balance of the pool, and we don't have any leverage. Three of the waterfalls work. This is the main one and I like the natural look. Below, here's the deep end waterfall, and it's flows nicely. The water sheer like this one, that flows into the shallow beach area, is the fall that is not working. It's frustrating, but hopefully they'll fix it soon. The fountain in the spa is blocked too. Here's the small rock waterfall, which works just great. It took about 18 hours to fill the pool and we practically watched it gallon by gallon. I stayed up all night long, making sure it didn't overflow. We swim in it every day. Last night we went on a midnight swim and it was beautiful. The water temperature is perfect. I'm extremely thankful that we have our new...

Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan....
