Christmas Traditions enrichment night

Last night we had our quarterly women's night out at church, our enrichment night. The theme we chose was "Christmas Traditions," and we had nine tables of eight, and each table was decorated with place settings from nine different women, and there were nativities set up by nine different women in the centers of the tables. Here they are...please ignore the butter, sour cream, bacon pieces, and barbecue sauce that we added to go with the traditional Texas barbecue. Here was my table first. My nativity person had not arrived yet when I snapped this shot. This was Cheryl's green china and Kim's monochromatic nativity.
This is Shauna's china, which she got at her wedding 21 years ago, and her nativity she got in Jerusalem.
This is Yvette's china with her hand-painted buckets and handmade placemats and napkins, created specifically for this event. Cindy's nativity looks perfect with it.
This is Alyssa's china and nativity set. I love the little mini nativity.
This china is Christine's and the reindeer place card holders had the cutest names like Rudolf and Santa in a really fun font. Her nativity hadn't arrived yet.
This is Dessie's table, china and nativity. The amazing thing here is she has 30 place settings of this Christmas china.
Looks like I somehow missed Wanda's table, which was stunning! Next is Sue's table, including her nativity. My sister Tracy's Christmas dishes look almost just like these. It was such a nice evening and the highlight was Kim and Desiree's vocal solos. Desiree sang at our last year's event and I told everyone that we've started a tradition with having her sing for us, and hope that both of them can continue this next year.
Wanda put this display together by the podium. This picture of the Savior belonged to Jenny and was so pretty in person.
Here's the best enrichment committee ever, working diligently to hand make the invitations we sent out to everyone. Their efforts paid off because we had an excellent turnout with 71 women in attendance. Part of the committee were in the kitchen working and part were in the dining room. It took us two meeting times, plus some extra time on the side by a couple of the women to make all of these gorgeous invitations, which were received with appreciation and sent with love. Jenny, Wanda, Lonna, Stephanie, and Diana are pictured here.
Jessica and her sister are busy tying bows here.
Finally, we have Toni and Jessica, embossing buddies.
Hats off to the Anderson Mill Ward Relief Society members who attended our special event! We all appreciated you showing up to partake of our creativity and hard work and planning. Stephanie, our former Enrichment Leader, got my vote for the night for the MVP. She came up with the original concept and menu and passed the torch on to the next new leader, Wanda, and helped so much. She cooked all the brisket and Texas sheet cake, after arriving home from a business trip at 2 am early yesterday morning. But all in all, this entire team was so impressive. We had 100% attendance and cooperation at the last several meetings and I couldn't be more thankful for such amazing peers to serve with.

You forgot to mention all the things that you did as well Kelly. Everyone knows that you were the one to add all the great embellishments that made each little thing like the invites, and ornament favors really special. But you are right the team works really well together. And the whole thing turned out great.

I just got put on the activity committee and all I can think of is what Kelly would do. I have been ruined, I have found my self thinking if only we had real plates it would be so much better.

WOW and double WOW!!!! Y'all really outdid yourselves. We picked the same theme in our ward but your table settings far exceeded ours. I hosted a table and did this same thing when we lived in Dallas and it was awesome. I knew the AM Sistas would pull something fabulous together and you did. SOoo glad you took pictures, so great seeing some of you and the beautiful decor.

Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party!

Hopefully this title, Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party , does not sound irreverent, because as an Activity Days leader, I felt compelled to come up with a fun end-of-the-summer event that is also uplifting, and after all, who doesn't love a splash in the pool on a hot day in August?  My current church calling, or official role that I volunteer for, allows me to plan two activities each month for girls ages 8 to 11, that will encourage them to learn and live the gospel, serve others, and use the talents Heavenly Father has given them, to learn to do many good things.  This year's seminary course of study for high school students is The Book of Mormon, and since I am a huge fan of this inspired book of scripture, I came up with this idea to have each girl show up to my house with a written summary of one of her favorite stories from within its many pages, and share it with the rest of the girls, while outside in our swimsuits near our backyard swimming pool!  As each girl shares

Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan.  Who would have thoug

Elder Larson to return from Thailand soon

Soon is relative, I suppose. Our son has been away from home more than a year and a half as he has been volunteering as a full-time missionary in the Thailand Bangkok Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since September 14, 2016. He will be home in four months and is working so hard, knowing his time there is winding down. He has been assigned to train Elder Ben Meyer, from Sydney, Australia, as they serve in Ubon, Thailand. Christopher has been there since November. We are very proud of his dedication and hard work. This week in Thailand, the new prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, with his wife, Wendy Nelson, along with one of the Twelve Apostles, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, and his wife, Patricia Holland, will be on their world ministering tour and be where our son is. The Church members and missionaries in Thailand are very excited and happy for this special visit! I can't wait to hear how it goes, and I look forward to pictures and stories to come.
