Making pool selections

Today I visited Cody Pools to make my selections for our soon-to-be new swimming pool and I'm very excited about what I've picked out. The flagstone sample below is what we'll go with bordering the entire pool and spa, and it's called Oklahoma Chocolate Golden. Now to an Okie girl, this name sounded exactly perfect. I tend to get hung up on things like names and numbers. Example, when we were moving to Texas, I knew I didn't want to live in Pflugerville, simply because I didn't like the name. While house hunting, there's no way I would buy a home on Cluck Creek Parkway either. Above, the shiny tile square is going to be the single row below the flagstone, that will go around the pool and spa. It doesn't have a name, but a number. The hardest choice for me was this little triangle piece, the Pebble Sheen or Pebble Tec, that will cover the entire surface of the pool where the water goes. I initially had a beige color chosen, but Dub told me that that was the only one he did not like. He said the beige tones makes the water appear green. I like green. But maybe not green water. I decided I would rather go with a deep blue oasis look, and chose the Pebble Sheen color called Turtle Bay, with Christopher in mind (and Spud).
This Indian Wheat (above) is my choice for the Sun Deck, which will be gentle on the feet, compared to our wood deck that is going to be taken out. (We'll still have the larger wood deck for the table area.) This taupe tone was an easy choice, as some of the other options were too white or too pink or peach. This took two seconds to pick.
Here's an example (above) of a pool that will have my Indian Wheat decking and Oklahoma Chocolate Golden flagstone.
Here, above, you'll see what the wall around the spa and the far side of the pool will be made from. It's going to look so pretty. It's called Oklahoma Chocolate Caramel--which goes nicely with the O. C. Golden flagstone.
We'll have some big rocks and boulders too, similar to these. Our swimming pool water will appear darker than this one above. I also made the decision to increase the depth of the pool from 6 feet to 6.5 feet. They'll start on our pool on Thursday, by painting on the dirt where everything will go. We will need to have a huge oak tree removed tomorrow. The removal cost of this huge tree is $1,200. That's a lot for digging up a tree, don't you think? Since I'll be giving updates on the pool, I'll start a new label for this subject because you can be sure that I'll be preoccupied with it over the next couple of months. This has been a long awaited dream that's now coming true and we are all so thrilled!

That seems like more decisions than I would have thought you would have to make right away. But I like where it is going. Bring on the pool, and out with the tree. I am not surprised by your choice in the names of the products, as soon as I read the first one I thought for sure you choose it thinking of the name. You are going to have a great summer ahead of you.

I don't think I would have known what to do with all those choices. I know you'll be ecstatic with the finished product.

I know this was posted a long time ago but could you post a pic of your pool finished? I am having to make these decisions and would love to see what turtle bay looks like.

Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party!

Hopefully this title, Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party , does not sound irreverent, because as an Activity Days leader, I felt compelled to come up with a fun end-of-the-summer event that is also uplifting, and after all, who doesn't love a splash in the pool on a hot day in August?  My current church calling, or official role that I volunteer for, allows me to plan two activities each month for girls ages 8 to 11, that will encourage them to learn and live the gospel, serve others, and use the talents Heavenly Father has given them, to learn to do many good things.  This year's seminary course of study for high school students is The Book of Mormon, and since I am a huge fan of this inspired book of scripture, I came up with this idea to have each girl show up to my house with a written summary of one of her favorite stories from within its many pages, and share it with the rest of the girls, while outside in our swimsuits near our backyard swimming pool!  As each girl shares

Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan.  Who would have thoug

Elder Larson to return from Thailand soon

Soon is relative, I suppose. Our son has been away from home more than a year and a half as he has been volunteering as a full-time missionary in the Thailand Bangkok Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since September 14, 2016. He will be home in four months and is working so hard, knowing his time there is winding down. He has been assigned to train Elder Ben Meyer, from Sydney, Australia, as they serve in Ubon, Thailand. Christopher has been there since November. We are very proud of his dedication and hard work. This week in Thailand, the new prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, with his wife, Wendy Nelson, along with one of the Twelve Apostles, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, and his wife, Patricia Holland, will be on their world ministering tour and be where our son is. The Church members and missionaries in Thailand are very excited and happy for this special visit! I can't wait to hear how it goes, and I look forward to pictures and stories to come.
