Lasik eye surgery for Kelly

Kelly had eye surgery today and he's under doctor's orders to take a nice, long nap to let his eyes start healing. His vision has been terrible and he's wanted to have this surgery forever. So today was the day! Happy 22nd anniversary, Honey! The surgery that he had will take a few days or even a couple weeks to have his eyes adjust to how they'll be permanently. I had booked a fun getaway at the relatively new Lost Pines Hyatt near Bastrop, but Thursday is the only day that they schedule surgeries, so I canceled our celebration. His doctor, Dr. Steven Dell, brother of the famous Michael Dell, has treated tens of thousands of patients, so we're hoping his expertise and experience did the trick. Maybe we'll go out to dinner tonight if Kelly's up for it. I'm really excited for Kelly because his contacts have been bothering him really badly and he's been wearing his glasses for the past two months and they are such a pain, not to mention, I miss seeing his pretty green eyes without coke-bottle lenses hiding them. Swimming will be much better for Kelly too. Cross your fingers--so far, it must have worked well because he can now see how many fingers I hold up across the room, and before surgery, that was impossible.

I wish him a speedy recovery - and both of you a happy anniversary! Let me know how happy he is with the result. JL has been wanting to have this done for years, so I'd be interested in seeing this Dr.

Happy Anniversary! I know what you mean...I prefer seeing my husband's pretty (blue) eyes au natural, too. I used to (a long time ago) actually hide his glasses so he couldn't wear them. Then he got some more stylish ones but I still prefer him without glasses.

How exciting! I want my husband to get it done too, I know what you mean about contacts and them wearing glasses. Hope the recovery goes well!

Tom still talks of his surgery like a miracle 4 years later!

Did it in 2003 and it was the greatest thing ever. It was well worth the money (and temporary discomfort).

Oh I know that James will be interested in the outcome of the surgery as well, he too has been talking about getting his eyes fixed for awhile.

I hope that you have a wonderful anniversary. Congrats on the 22 years. You have such a wonderful family and relationship with them to show for it.

How exciting for Kelly! I hear good things about that surgery so I'm sure he'll be very pleased with the results!

And HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! Hopefully you'll get to enjoy a nice dinner out tonight but if not, I'm sure you'll just be happy to be together! You'll definitely have to go to Lost Pines another weekend...some of our friends went recently and raved about how relaxing it was!

I'm so jealous. I can't wait to get LASIK someday. Maybe when I'm older... >_< Wish Uncle Kelly an easy recovery.

I hope the surgery works out well--many I know who have had it are very happy with it. I went in for an evaluation a month ago--and I am too far-sighted for it. But, he found cataracts and needs to remove them and that surgery accomplishes the same results as LASIK, plus my insurance will pay for it! I get one eye done next month--can't wait!
Dustin had Dr. Dell do his eyes 7 years ago! No problems for Dustin! He would totally do lasik all over again if he had to - he loves not having to wear contacts or glasses anymore! We hope Kelly is recovering perfectly!

Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party!

Hopefully this title, Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party , does not sound irreverent, because as an Activity Days leader, I felt compelled to come up with a fun end-of-the-summer event that is also uplifting, and after all, who doesn't love a splash in the pool on a hot day in August?  My current church calling, or official role that I volunteer for, allows me to plan two activities each month for girls ages 8 to 11, that will encourage them to learn and live the gospel, serve others, and use the talents Heavenly Father has given them, to learn to do many good things.  This year's seminary course of study for high school students is The Book of Mormon, and since I am a huge fan of this inspired book of scripture, I came up with this idea to have each girl show up to my house with a written summary of one of her favorite stories from within its many pages, and share it with the rest of the girls, while outside in our swimsuits near our backyard swimming pool!  As each girl shares

Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan.  Who would have thoug

Elder Larson to return from Thailand soon

Soon is relative, I suppose. Our son has been away from home more than a year and a half as he has been volunteering as a full-time missionary in the Thailand Bangkok Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since September 14, 2016. He will be home in four months and is working so hard, knowing his time there is winding down. He has been assigned to train Elder Ben Meyer, from Sydney, Australia, as they serve in Ubon, Thailand. Christopher has been there since November. We are very proud of his dedication and hard work. This week in Thailand, the new prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, with his wife, Wendy Nelson, along with one of the Twelve Apostles, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, and his wife, Patricia Holland, will be on their world ministering tour and be where our son is. The Church members and missionaries in Thailand are very excited and happy for this special visit! I can't wait to hear how it goes, and I look forward to pictures and stories to come.
