General Relief Society Meeting

Last night I joined some friends from church to attend our annual worldwide meeting for our women's group, the Relief Society, that is broadcast from Salt Lake City via satellite all over the world. Did you know that the Relief Society is the largest women's organization in the world? The talks were inspirational and the night was uplifting, followed by dinner out at Carino's with a group of nine of us. I took pictures of everyone, no surprise there since I take my camera with me almost everywhere. Everyone asked if I was going to post them on my blog and I said I wasn't, but I changed my mind. I love these wonderful women and wanted to show you some of the most remarkable, compassionate, loving, kind, awesome people that I get to enjoy on a regular basis. I love 'em all. This one of Lindsey was taken today after church. She didn't go with us, but next year at this time, she'll be 18 and a senior, and can go too! Here's Liz on the left, my awesome visiting teaching partner, and Michele, who is in the Relief Society presidency with me. We go way back serving together from the Young Women's organization and have developed a deep love for each other along the way.
Here's me, sunburned from being outside several hours yesterday for our neighborhood garage sale that I participated in for once, with Michelle, my son's pediatric dentist, and I visit teach her. This night out counted as one of our official monthly visits as the doc's schedule is packed and it's hard for her to squeeze in a traditional appointment with us.
Here is Shana, who teaches Relief Society on the fourth Sunday of the month for our Teaching For Our Time lessons (I love when she teaches), and Cheryl, who was previously the head of the ward Activities Committee with her husband, but she is now a counselor in the Young Women's. Next is Jenn, who is an assistant ward music person, in addition to being a graduate of the University of Texas music department. Both Jenn and Cheryl have lovely singing voices.
Here is Paige, one of those naturally gifted, likable, all-around amazing women, who seems to fit in well with anyone, and everyone is drawn to her. She's a Sunday School teacher for the young teens. Jennie is next to her and is an incredible homemaker, baker, seamstress, organizer, etc. She has six kids and takes home the grand prize for being the one with the most children at our table.
Now you see what I'm talking about. I love all my friends and have such a wonderful time on the rare moment that we get together for events like this. I can't wait until next year!

Hey mommmy, I will check with Lindsey and have her give you a call. You're the first to ask, so that's a good sign.

Did I promise? I thought I just said I would delete anything that made someone not look very good, but I think everyone looks nice. Can't wait to check out the nombres.

Lindsey's hair looks really good - and so does yours! I agree with one of your friends - you have a gift of socializing and making others feel good about themselves!

Looks like a fun night! Carinos is Ben's and my favorite restaurant.
I, too, loved the broadcast. I told Ben he would have to do bedtime for the boys because there was no way I was going to miss the RS broadcast. Br. Uchtdorf's talk was absolutely phenomenal.

The meeting was great. I "went" with a good friend, too--Sherm! We haven't had much one-on-one time lately, so he suggested that we go make dinner up at the cabin and watch the rebroadcast together on TV at 8 p.m. I went to the ward and participated in a service project, and then we drove up through the fall leaves. It was a nice evening.
Aren't you grateful for good friends? Women who lift you by example and caring? True blessings, indeed.

At first glance I thought Paige was your sister Julie! I thought..."how did SHE get down there?" :)

What a fun thing you did with your friends. We missed the conference due to a little weekend get-away with extended family. I love those conferences so much as I always come away totally inspired. You'll love getting to have Lindsey join you next year. Is she THAT old?! Are WE that old?!

Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party!

Hopefully this title, Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party , does not sound irreverent, because as an Activity Days leader, I felt compelled to come up with a fun end-of-the-summer event that is also uplifting, and after all, who doesn't love a splash in the pool on a hot day in August?  My current church calling, or official role that I volunteer for, allows me to plan two activities each month for girls ages 8 to 11, that will encourage them to learn and live the gospel, serve others, and use the talents Heavenly Father has given them, to learn to do many good things.  This year's seminary course of study for high school students is The Book of Mormon, and since I am a huge fan of this inspired book of scripture, I came up with this idea to have each girl show up to my house with a written summary of one of her favorite stories from within its many pages, and share it with the rest of the girls, while outside in our swimsuits near our backyard swimming pool!  As each girl shares

Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan.  Who would have thoug

Elder Larson to return from Thailand soon

Soon is relative, I suppose. Our son has been away from home more than a year and a half as he has been volunteering as a full-time missionary in the Thailand Bangkok Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since September 14, 2016. He will be home in four months and is working so hard, knowing his time there is winding down. He has been assigned to train Elder Ben Meyer, from Sydney, Australia, as they serve in Ubon, Thailand. Christopher has been there since November. We are very proud of his dedication and hard work. This week in Thailand, the new prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, with his wife, Wendy Nelson, along with one of the Twelve Apostles, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, and his wife, Patricia Holland, will be on their world ministering tour and be where our son is. The Church members and missionaries in Thailand are very excited and happy for this special visit! I can't wait to hear how it goes, and I look forward to pictures and stories to come.
