A fun-filled Memorial Day

This morning I woke up at about 6 am and watched the season finale of Survivor Tocachins, or what ever it's called, with Kelly as he's still trying to adjust his sleep schedule from being 13 hours ahead in Taiwan for two weeks.

Next, I rode my bike to Trailhead Park with Christopher where he and the Boy Scouts were having a fund-raiser to help pay for their summer camp. I rode home, then rounded up Lindsey and Kelly, then we went to the pancake breakfast at the park while Christopher had fun flipping pancakes or holding the sign by the road attracting guests to join them.

We came home, I dropped off Lindsey and Kelly, then headed downtown to experience the thrill of another triathlon, but this time as a spectator. It was a huge event compared to my little tri a couple weeks ago, and it was exciting to be there and see all the talent, strength, and perseverance, of the triathletes pushing themselves to their best abilities. I cheered on my friend, Dave, again as he zoomed by on his bike a few times, and looked really carefully, yet unsuccessfully, for my neighbor, Liz. What an incredible sight it was to see all the participants swimming, then biking, then running to the finish line.

Next, I headed to Academy and bought some new running shoes and a couple of workout clothing items, then headed home. We had Jenny's youngest daughter over here all day and she clung to Lindsey initially, then warmed up to everyone in the family. She was so good and kept us all entertained while Jenny painted her house that will become a rental property soon, and she and her family relocate to California at the end of the week. We'll miss them so much!

After our adventures with little Jamie, Kelly and the kids and I went to see Star Trek, which was a great movie and kept us all in suspense. There was one line in it that bothered me that could have been eliminated, but it was still pretty good. After the movie, we had dinner at Mesa Rosa, and I filled up on chips and salsa and Rosa Dip, and didn't eat much of my Burrito Al Carbon.

When we got home, I hit the treadmill for the first day of my eight-week plan that I'm starting to get more into running. Since I really don't like to run and really cannot run for long periods of time, the title of this caught my attention. If you'd like to join me, click here. Somehow it is supposed to transform me from the couch to a 5K within two months. Tonight I ran and walked about a mile and a half and it wasn't easy, but it wasn't too bad. I'm looking forward to actually training for the next triathlon I enter, which will be in September.

Then finally, Kelly is waiting for me to join him to see the season finale of 24, and I wanted to add this post first. Speaking of 24, twenty-four years ago today, I came home from Belgium and The Netherlands, after spending eighteen months of my life there as a full-time LDS missionary.

What a delightful and wonderful Memorial Day it has been!

One of my best friends entered that triathlon in Austin two years ago and the weather was so rainy that it was cancelled! Anyway, I thought I would tell you I am not a runner either- at all! And it's taken me probably 4 months but I can now finally run a 5k. good luck!
You were so busy! What a great day. I can't wait to keep track of your progress and be able to run a race with you! Should be a fun time!

What a nice day! I am so excited for you and your training. You will be so amazed at how fast your endurance will pick up. I think it would be cool if we did a 10 K together with our hubbies too.
We saw Star Trek yesterday too! It was really fun and action packed. I could have done without a couple of lines, but the content of the whole movie was really good.
I am glad Kelly is back. Did he get to use any of his new language he studied?

Way to go on the training program. I am still so impressed that you did a tri without any prep! At the next one you will be amazing! Sounds like a good Memorial Day.

Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party!

Hopefully this title, Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party , does not sound irreverent, because as an Activity Days leader, I felt compelled to come up with a fun end-of-the-summer event that is also uplifting, and after all, who doesn't love a splash in the pool on a hot day in August?  My current church calling, or official role that I volunteer for, allows me to plan two activities each month for girls ages 8 to 11, that will encourage them to learn and live the gospel, serve others, and use the talents Heavenly Father has given them, to learn to do many good things.  This year's seminary course of study for high school students is The Book of Mormon, and since I am a huge fan of this inspired book of scripture, I came up with this idea to have each girl show up to my house with a written summary of one of her favorite stories from within its many pages, and share it with the rest of the girls, while outside in our swimsuits near our backyard swimming pool!  As each girl shares

Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan.  Who would have thoug

Elder Larson to return from Thailand soon

Soon is relative, I suppose. Our son has been away from home more than a year and a half as he has been volunteering as a full-time missionary in the Thailand Bangkok Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since September 14, 2016. He will be home in four months and is working so hard, knowing his time there is winding down. He has been assigned to train Elder Ben Meyer, from Sydney, Australia, as they serve in Ubon, Thailand. Christopher has been there since November. We are very proud of his dedication and hard work. This week in Thailand, the new prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, with his wife, Wendy Nelson, along with one of the Twelve Apostles, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, and his wife, Patricia Holland, will be on their world ministering tour and be where our son is. The Church members and missionaries in Thailand are very excited and happy for this special visit! I can't wait to hear how it goes, and I look forward to pictures and stories to come.
