Steph and Barb's visit

Blogger frustration. Doesn't it annoy you when you finish a post and realize that you left out a couple of pictures, and you have wasted enough time that you don't want to redo the whole thing? Well, here's a picture that falls in that category, my friends Stephanie and Barb, enjoying getting their mani-pedis after a long plane flight. Totally out of order from my post below, but oh, well. And I also realized that somehow I didn't add a picture of Barb in the pool yet, so here's proof that she took a dip at least once with us. Now you can read where the post was supposed to start, following this picture.
Welcome to Austin, Barbara and Stephanie, my two good buddies from Colorado!
You know how it is when you often invite friends and family to come visit you and usually they say they will. But they never do? Well, when I texted one of my friends and told her that our kids were in Colorado for 19 days, and that she should come visit, she took me up on the offer! And called another good friend of ours to come along! I was so happy to have guests! I took a lot of pictures, but they're posted in reverse order of their stay. We ate out a lot and one of the last places I took them was Rudy's, which Stephanie loved the most.
They thought the moist brisket was amazing, along with the creamed corn and new potatoes.
The kids were happy to come home from Colorado and it was nice that Barb and Stephanie could have one night here with our kids too, since they haven't seen them in years.
Christopher's fun personality is always a big hit with everyone who knows him. Here he is with Barb (above). And with Stephanie (below).
Barb was demonstrating her velcro curlers styling tip with us.
Stephanie is relaxing after we hit the pool for a while on one of the hottest days of the summer.
We ate breakfasts at home, but most of the other meals out, which was a nice treat.
We enjoyed some mediocre live music at Gumbo's on Friday night, but the ambiance was pleasant.
Here's the quote-un-quote talent, a Michigan Texan transplant, that hopefully has a day job.
Luckily, the deep fried crawfish and spinach dip appetizer was above average.
We spent a good chunk of time shopping, something that my two hard-working CPA friends, don't do too often at home, so this was a treat for them.
We realized that all three of us had chain marks from our bike ride on the backs of our legs, even after we showered and got cleaned up. Oops--we missed a spot!
After the three of went on a ten-mile bike ride (wimps...I wanted to go farther, but they had issues with the 103 degree temperature for some reason), and the pool was beckoning us, so we could not resist.
They were loving life and both kept saying they felt like they were in a tropical paradise, and want to return some time with their husbands.
What an awesome time the three of us had together.
I rode my new road bike, Stephanie used my mountain bike, and Barb rode on Christopher's nice new mountain bike. It was a scorching day, but they loved the bike ride I took them on.
Here we are before the bike ride, enjoying our poolside breakfast.
I took close up pictures for their Facebook profile pictures, since neither had one. Here's Barb.
And here's Stephanie! Thank you for coming to visit me from Colorado and Utah! You both made my month! It means a lot to me that two of my sweet girlfriends from when we lived in Colorado nine years ago, took the time to come see me! I love you both! Kelly and I enjoyed having you in our home for a few days.

Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party!

Hopefully this title, Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party , does not sound irreverent, because as an Activity Days leader, I felt compelled to come up with a fun end-of-the-summer event that is also uplifting, and after all, who doesn't love a splash in the pool on a hot day in August?  My current church calling, or official role that I volunteer for, allows me to plan two activities each month for girls ages 8 to 11, that will encourage them to learn and live the gospel, serve others, and use the talents Heavenly Father has given them, to learn to do many good things.  This year's seminary course of study for high school students is The Book of Mormon, and since I am a huge fan of this inspired book of scripture, I came up with this idea to have each girl show up to my house with a written summary of one of her favorite stories from within its many pages, and share it with the rest of the girls, while outside in our swimsuits near our backyard swimming pool!  As each girl shares

Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan.  Who would have thoug

Elder Larson to return from Thailand soon

Soon is relative, I suppose. Our son has been away from home more than a year and a half as he has been volunteering as a full-time missionary in the Thailand Bangkok Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since September 14, 2016. He will be home in four months and is working so hard, knowing his time there is winding down. He has been assigned to train Elder Ben Meyer, from Sydney, Australia, as they serve in Ubon, Thailand. Christopher has been there since November. We are very proud of his dedication and hard work. This week in Thailand, the new prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, with his wife, Wendy Nelson, along with one of the Twelve Apostles, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, and his wife, Patricia Holland, will be on their world ministering tour and be where our son is. The Church members and missionaries in Thailand are very excited and happy for this special visit! I can't wait to hear how it goes, and I look forward to pictures and stories to come.
