I'm starting to get nervous for the triathlon that's coming up on Labor Day. It would be so much better if I had someone doing it with me in my age category (40 and over) at the sprint distance who is at about the same skill level that I am (whimpy), just for the company. I have friends who are doing the race that are doing the Olympic distance so they will start at a different time. I'm excited but am having feelings similar to my friend, Bobbi, wondering what I've gotten myself into. I've been training here and there, so I'm more prepared than the last tri. The heat we've had here in Austin certainly hasn't been too helpful for the situation. It makes going outside and running or biking quite uncomfortable. I wish one of my sisters would come do the race with me! I even asked Julie to join me, and she said she would if I bought her plane ticket out here and I said I would. But then I looked at the triathlon online and the race is completely full and registration is closed. It has been for a while since it's a popular race. We'll see how it goes! I have nine more days to get ready. Seven hundred meter swim, 27 km bike, 5 km run, all at about 10 am on a 95 to 100 degree day. Fun, fun, fun! And I actually paid to do this?
Hopefully this title, Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party , does not sound irreverent, because as an Activity Days leader, I felt compelled to come up with a fun end-of-the-summer event that is also uplifting, and after all, who doesn't love a splash in the pool on a hot day in August? My current church calling, or official role that I volunteer for, allows me to plan two activities each month for girls ages 8 to 11, that will encourage them to learn and live the gospel, serve others, and use the talents Heavenly Father has given them, to learn to do many good things. This year's seminary course of study for high school students is The Book of Mormon, and since I am a huge fan of this inspired book of scripture, I came up with this idea to have each girl show up to my house with a written summary of one of her favorite stories from within its many pages, and share it with the rest of the girls, while outside in our swimsuits near our backyard swimming pool! As each girl shares

Me, I'd just as soon go to my grave before I did something like that :) OK, my knees have given up on me in the past 18 months so just climbing stairs or even just getting in and out of my car bothers them.
I'm looking forward to reading about your experience though. You'll do great!
