Wicked in Austin

Friday night, Kelly and the kids and I went to see Wicked for the first time and it was a nice way to celebrate our 23rd anniversary, which was that day. When I bought the tickets in May, I went back and forth on how many tickets to buy, two or four, and decided that both our kids would be old enough to enjoy the show. The music and orchestra were especially a treat for all of us.
The UT campus was hot, like most days this summer have been. We begin mandatory water restrictions tomorrow, where we can only water our lawn once a week. This drought is intense.
For those who want to put their name in for the show two and a half hours prior, there is a drawing for $25 a seat, with a two ticket limit. Good to know!
We had decent seats, in the lowest balcony on the left, and I sat right on the edge. It was cozy. I just wish I had not left my binoculars on my desk at home so I could get a closer glimpse at the actors' faces. All the binocular rentals had sold out. Next time.
Kelly and I enjoyed sharing our date night with the kids.
They loved being there too. Christopher had an intense headache and the music was a bit loud and painful for him at times. Lindsey was singing along to most of the songs. She loves the Wicked soundtrack. The two vocalists/actors who played Elpheba and Glenda/Galinda did a phenomenal job and their voices complimented each other beautifully.
Intermission. There are several levels like this at the Bass Concert Hall on the University of Texas campus and in person, it's an interesting view to look up and down.
After the show, we sat on the steps outside this hot summer night for one last photo op for the evening. Happy anniversary, Kelly! Ik hou van jou! (I love you--in Dutch.)

I am glad that you had a good anniversary, and what a neat idea to bring the kids along to see the show. I am glad that you liked it. My sister just flew to L.A. to see it and she had nothing but rave reviews as well.

Sounds like you found the perfect way to celebrate your special day.
Thought you said that "Wicked was a horrible, trashy, awful book" and "that my mom should sell her tickets". And if im remembering the whole evening... you made Dan feel bad about even having read it.

Hummm... Ok. Glad you liked it.

I saw Wicked when I was in NYC. Loved it!!! I won the "lottery" and got to sit in the second row. The best part is that I had a friend in the show and he took us backstage to see the wigs and costumes after.

Hi Merideth. Actually, I did say those things about the book. I wasn't a fan of it, at all. I did not know that your husband felt that way when I was with your family at dinner and we were discussing it, because I don't recall him ever saying a word to me about it. I know I never told your mom she should sell her tickets, because I would have wanted to buy them! I've heard from many people that the book was bad, but the play was good. So that's why I never had any doubts about seeing the play, for the record. I liked the play. I hope you get a chance to see it sometime, if you haven't already.

Thanks for your recommendation on bringing some binoculars. We just went here in Seattle and brought some and it was so perfect. We had decent seats, but the binoculars were so helpful!! We LOVED it!!
