Lindsey's choir Cabaret show

Listen to the Music was Lindsey's high school choir theme for this year's Cabaret show. Jackie, the choir booster club secretary, and mom of Christina, made our colorful, excellent entry sign. The wall of seniors turned out really well and each of them got to take home their keepsake 11 x 14 autographed photo.
After the first night's show, here's Neil (Elizabeth's husband), Elizabeth, me, and Jackie. Elizabeth is the president, I'm the vice president, and Jackie is the secretary. The treasurer, Karen, was backstage monitoring and supporting the students that night. Plus, she got some wonderful pictures, that I'll be posting here.
This is Karen's daughter, Charissa, who sang "Taylor, the Latte Boy."
Here is Elizabeth's daughter, Catherine, who sang "Alto's Lament," and here's a version of it since there is not one of her posted that I know of.
Here's some backstage socializing.
More of the same.
Lindsey performed in a trio with Jaime and Christina, singing "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy."
Since my camera was really messed up that night, most of my pictures were blurry. Thankfully, Rob, Bryan's dad, and Karen, Charissa's mom, took several that I've copied to be able to save for long-term. Thank you, Rob and Karen!
It's been a while since I've made clothes, but I was excited how well the girls skirts and vests turned out that I sewed for each of them. That turquoise sparkly fabric was a pain to work with, but they looked awesome on stage.
They harmonized beautifully together.
Their choreography went really well with the music.
The audience seemed to have been pleased by their lovely vocals and their darling costumes.
I never wanted this moment to end! Surprisingly, this was Lindsey's first time to perform in a small group in Cabaret, even though she's been in choir forever. She looked confident on stage and sounded fantastic.
The girls got along well the days prior to the big night, rehearsed, and worked out details.
So many pictures! I just couldn't narrow it down, so I included most of the ones that I borrowed from Rob and from Karen.
I flew my mom out to see the show, so Lindsey was delighted that her grandmother got to be there.

On Saturday night, Christina (on right) sang a wonderful version of "Popular." If anyone knows of Christina's performance on youtube, let me know and I'll add it.

One highlight of the song was that Jaime's dad played the trumpet in the band for this piece.
The crowd went wild and gave a thunderous applause. Okay, I admit that I might be exaggerating, but they did indeed seem to be one of the best acts of the night.
I just wish they could have performed on Saturday night as well.
Jaime, who joined Lindsey in Boogie Woogie, sang a really cute duet with Apoorva "The Grass is Always Greener." Here's a similar older version I found.
None of these pictures are in the right order! Here I am with Corey's mom at the ticket sales table on Friday night. It was hectic and we sold more than $4,100 of admissions for the two nights, and I am relieved that it's over. Overall, it went well, but I had a few glitches that were challenging. It's hard to be in charge sometimes. Anyway, I didn't even realize that Rob had taken this photo until I saw it posted with all of his others.
This was for either the opening or closing act.

The women's choir did very well.
Here's the choir director.
Some of the boys sang the Pokémon song and it was quite funny, complete with battle scenes. "You teach me and I'll teach you, Pokémon!" On the second night when they performed this, I about fell out of my seat when I saw Lindsey walking across the stage wearing her old Jigglypuff costume and it was hilarious! I don't have a picture of it though. Everyone was cracking up.
The show choir medley was really awesome.

One of the songs in the medley was Grease Lightning.

Bryan and Jordan looking good.
Catherine and Dionysus were acting their parts well.

Lindsey also performed in a group of ten, singing the hit, "Somebody to Love."
While I enjoyed this a lot and thought Lindsey did fantastic on her solos, my favorite act was her trio.
One of the moms of this group, Phyllis, who is Joanna's mother (to the right of Lindsey), got each one who sang in this group a single red rose bouquet to congratulate them on a job well done. What a nice thing for her to do!
This was after Saturday's show and I was exhausted and Lindsey and all the other students were relieved to have Cabaret been a success.
Dyeiesha, Melody, Lindsey, and Zach posed here as we were cleaning up and tearing things down.
The kids went to Cheddar's afterwards to celebrate. Here's Eric, who performed "Mr. Cellophane." All of the acts were outstanding, and his was particularly funny also.
Lindsey didn't have a problem being surrounded by all these nice young men.
It was late and I wasn't very hungry, but here's some of the food everyone snacked on.

Dionysus at 6'10" tall, compared to Lindsey, at 4'11.5" and Dyeiesha, at 5'2" towers over them.

Melody and Lindsey, posing with their senior photos.

That looks like it was a lot of hard work on everyone's part, but it also looks like lots of fun. I am always impressed with all the things that Lindsay is doing and involved in all the time. She is so fun and talented.

I don't think that there is any way I would be able to do a trio or solo on stage so kudos to her. What a great mom you are for always being so involved in the stuff your family is doing.

Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party!

Hopefully this title, Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party , does not sound irreverent, because as an Activity Days leader, I felt compelled to come up with a fun end-of-the-summer event that is also uplifting, and after all, who doesn't love a splash in the pool on a hot day in August?  My current church calling, or official role that I volunteer for, allows me to plan two activities each month for girls ages 8 to 11, that will encourage them to learn and live the gospel, serve others, and use the talents Heavenly Father has given them, to learn to do many good things.  This year's seminary course of study for high school students is The Book of Mormon, and since I am a huge fan of this inspired book of scripture, I came up with this idea to have each girl show up to my house with a written summary of one of her favorite stories from within its many pages, and share it with the rest of the girls, while outside in our swimsuits near our backyard swimming pool!  As each girl shares

Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan.  Who would have thoug

Elder Larson to return from Thailand soon

Soon is relative, I suppose. Our son has been away from home more than a year and a half as he has been volunteering as a full-time missionary in the Thailand Bangkok Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since September 14, 2016. He will be home in four months and is working so hard, knowing his time there is winding down. He has been assigned to train Elder Ben Meyer, from Sydney, Australia, as they serve in Ubon, Thailand. Christopher has been there since November. We are very proud of his dedication and hard work. This week in Thailand, the new prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, with his wife, Wendy Nelson, along with one of the Twelve Apostles, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, and his wife, Patricia Holland, will be on their world ministering tour and be where our son is. The Church members and missionaries in Thailand are very excited and happy for this special visit! I can't wait to hear how it goes, and I look forward to pictures and stories to come.
