Top ten reasons why I love March 17

Here are the top ten reasons why I'm head over heels crazy about today, March 17:
10. Green is my favorite color, Kelly green especially.
9. Our family moved to Texas on March 17, 2000! Ten years ago today.
8. It always reminds me of my cousin, Billie Joe Armstrong, lead singer of Green Day.
7. I wrote an awesome poem in junior high about green for an English class, and got recognition for it, honorable mention in a poetry contest.
6. Since our family moved to another school in a different state, I submitted the same poem for a high school English class, and got an A.
5. Green looks good on me. (And in my opinion, it looks good on everyone.)
4. I whipped up corned beef and cabbage and potatoes for dinner tonight for the first time, starting a brand new tradition! (We were in California at this time, last year during spring break and enjoyed dinner with Aunt Ollie's family--Billie Joe's mom--and she served that menu and I LOVED it.)
3. Even though I'm not much of an environmentalist, I decided to support my friends who are, so today I bought some super cute "GREEN BAGS" for grocery shopping, and can do my part in saving a few plastic bags. My green bags are actually a brown zebra print, with lime green handles. Way stylish, and they actually hold a lot and things don't fall out of them while driving home.
2. GREEN FOOD! It is so much fun to serve green food and make a big deal out of this heavenly, living color. Today's green foods included green ice cream cones with Bluebell Pistacchio Almond ice cream, baby kosher dills--pickles and ice cream??? Weird!--sparkling 7-up spiked with green food coloring, and a green chef salad. I was planning to make pork green chili stew for lunch today, but ended up spending a lot of the day doing a service project for someone. I'll cook it tomorrow.
And finally, the number one reason why I love the 17th of March:
1. Because I'm IRISH!!! Who isn't on St. Patrick's Day?!!! Kiss me! xoxo

You guys look so cute! Love the green! I just couldn't get into the St. Pat's thing during spring break. It seems like too much work for a vacation day.

I didn't realize I loved March 17 so much until now that you mentioned it! ;) What a fun post, Kelly, and I love the cute picture at the end with your #1 reason, which was AWESOME! (BTW, I really hope your Honorable Mention ribbon was green.)

Let's see...my favorite thing about March 17 is the beautiful spring weather...which, in Texas, is one of the few times the outdoors are lush and green. I spent the day with my kids (and Grandma) at Zilker Park. We rode the train (which, wouldn't you know, is painted green.) The air was cool and the sky was blue with marshmallow clouds, but mostly the grass was a very lovely green.
way to go. i was lazy this year. like every year! love the picture.

LOVE IT!
your new pics are so fun! very stripe-y... cute!

your "green" bags sound awesome... now let's hope you are better than I at actually remembering to bring them into the store vs. leaving them in your trunk!

Didn't really celebrate my Irish % of family heritage this year... but love that you enjoyed it!

I'm having a hard time believe that that ice cream was actually edible... it sounds like some of the Bluebell flavors my dad picks out!

Karina, it was my first time to buy that flavor because my friend, Elizabeth, said she likes it. My kids weren't too thrilled when I told them, but it was pretty good. It actually tasted like vanilla ice cream with some nuts in it.

LOVE the new pictures in all their greenyness. I love any day that we can make a fuss over and just be silly and lighthearted over. I love four leaf clovers! They rock!

Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party!

Hopefully this title, Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party , does not sound irreverent, because as an Activity Days leader, I felt compelled to come up with a fun end-of-the-summer event that is also uplifting, and after all, who doesn't love a splash in the pool on a hot day in August?  My current church calling, or official role that I volunteer for, allows me to plan two activities each month for girls ages 8 to 11, that will encourage them to learn and live the gospel, serve others, and use the talents Heavenly Father has given them, to learn to do many good things.  This year's seminary course of study for high school students is The Book of Mormon, and since I am a huge fan of this inspired book of scripture, I came up with this idea to have each girl show up to my house with a written summary of one of her favorite stories from within its many pages, and share it with the rest of the girls, while outside in our swimsuits near our backyard swimming pool!  As each girl shares

Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan.  Who would have thoug

Elder Larson to return from Thailand soon

Soon is relative, I suppose. Our son has been away from home more than a year and a half as he has been volunteering as a full-time missionary in the Thailand Bangkok Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since September 14, 2016. He will be home in four months and is working so hard, knowing his time there is winding down. He has been assigned to train Elder Ben Meyer, from Sydney, Australia, as they serve in Ubon, Thailand. Christopher has been there since November. We are very proud of his dedication and hard work. This week in Thailand, the new prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, with his wife, Wendy Nelson, along with one of the Twelve Apostles, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, and his wife, Patricia Holland, will be on their world ministering tour and be where our son is. The Church members and missionaries in Thailand are very excited and happy for this special visit! I can't wait to hear how it goes, and I look forward to pictures and stories to come.
