What I Did Over Summer Vacation
an essay that I had to turn in for school today
This year I had an exciting summer with a lot of fun surprises and interesting things. Some of the highlights of my summer were going to Niagara Falls and Canada, American Football camp at BYU in the US, and not to mention moving to practically the complete other side of the world! First, let me tell you about my Football Camp. It was in the state of Utah, at a university called BYU. I stayed overnight for four days there. I lived in the student dorms, and got three meals a day in the cafeteria. I really did not like football camp one bit at first, because I had an annoying roommate, and they worked us really hard and did not give many breaks. After a while though, the football sessions seemed to be shorter, and more enjoyable. My roommate let me use his phone to call my parents in the night time, but probably the only reason he did that was because my mom said a payment of five US dollars could be his if he let me use his phone. In the end, I actually didn’t want to leave this awesome camp!
My trip to Niagara Falls was also an interesting and fun trip, with an unexpected twist. We went to the falls, and they were amazing! The beauty of the entire area was overwhelming. My family also got to take a boat in the lake at the bottom of the falls, and got close enough to the waterfall that we could hardly see through the mist. We also got to go on a short pathway that went through a portion of the waterfall! The area where the waterfall came down on the landing was called "The Hurricane Deck," and it was appropriately named! When you went into the waterfall, it felt like water was pounding on you at 90 mph! On the second trip to the falls, the next day, we used our GPS to try to take us to the falls, but it took us to the border between the US and Canada! Try as we did, it was a one-way street, and turning around was prohibited. The people at the immigration center allowed us to stay in Canada for a short time (my sister and I were without our passports), and see the Canadian side of the waterfalls, which was a lot better of a view. We didn’t stay in Canada long, but it was fun, and certainly unexpected!
My final major adventure was moving to Taiwan! An email was sent to my dad only three days before we left for Niagara Falls about relocating, so while in Niagara Falls, we couldn’t stop thinking about all the things we would miss or not have after our move. Not to mention, the trip was one and a half weeks long, and we had about four days to pack after we got back! That was a really short time, but even so, my packing was not done until the day before we left. The airplane ride was very fun, and lasted about twenty hours or so, with super comfortable chairs, and personal TV sets. It was a very fun journey, my first trip on an airplane to a different country, and I am most certainly enjoying every single bit of Taiwan. The people here are so much nicer, and I go to an awesome school, that is way better than my old school in Austin, Texas, USA. I love Taiwan and I wish I could stay here for the rest of my life.
I have had many very exciting adventures over this summer, and I enjoyed every bit of them, and I know I am very fortunate to have all of these amazing opportunities in my life. Although my summer was fantastic, by coming to Taiwan, my adventures seem to have only just begun.
