National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade

Our family had a memorable time in Washington, District of Columbia, from Thursday, April 11, through Monday, April 15, 2013, as we had the once in a lifetime chance to see our son, Christopher, march in the famous National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade with his high school band.
We enjoyed beautiful weather and the opportunity to visit these famous national sites.
Traveling with a twelve-month old baby and a nine-year-old was fun, but we had to be creative with our time to squeeze in naps for Isaac and to get the kids to bed each night at a decent hour.
Parade day, we showed up more than an hour before it was to begin to insure that we would have a good place to watch for Christopher. It was a good thing because people squeezed in all around us by the time the event began.

Work it, girl! This band was hilarious to watch. They were jamming and completely uninhibited.
The drum major was dancing all over the road and had moves like I'd never seen.
Strawberry Shortcake! She was our cue to look for the Warrior band next!
Not sure who she is, but this girl is on fire.  Okay, she just looks like Jennifer Hudson.
Isn't Strawberry so cute in her pink and green?
Texas representing!
While this might sound like any mom would say it, our son's band was the best, most organized, largest, overall top band in the entire parade.  I know that I'm biased, but it seemed to be a fact.
Here is another unbiased fact: the trombone section is the best to be in, according to Christopher.
What a thrill and an honor for these young men and women to be a part of this experience!
Besides seeing my son march by, the second favorite moment of the day was when I saw Elliott Yamin, whom I adore.  What a sweetheart!

Isaac had begun to get restless and tired, as the parade went on for almost two hours.

That is so cool that Christopher can play in this awesome band and be invited to participate in the Cherry Blossom festival. I bet the trombone section really is the best!
