Living next to the woods

Just after school today, Lindsey was about to leave to go to her physical therapy appointment, when she pointed out a big tarantula on the outside of our living room window. CREEPY! Here's a closer shot of the spider. I took the ruler to measure it and it's about 3.5 inches long, less than half the size of the nasty giant red-headed centipede that I encountered INSIDE the house last summer.
Living next to the woods, we get all kinds of wildlife, so these creepy crawly things come with the territory, literally. Time to call for pest control! Sorry about the unpleasant image--I'll be sure to post something different soon. I just wanted Kelly to see what he's missing. Why do I get these uninvited guests when he's out of town? He's in California until Thursday.

You can always call me if you need tarantula control. As long as it's not rodents or long red things, I can probably handle it.

Oh, that is horrifying! I hate bugs and arachnids. Good grief. I wouldn't be able to handle it. I can do snakes and lizards and even mice, but definitely not bugs.
Oh man...that is the part of Texas we DON'T MISS!

creepy! I hate spiders....

So do I, Jess. I've had the creeps all day and keep feeling like I need to not leave anything on the floor, like a purse or anything that a spider can crawl into.
Ok. that's creepy. We had some of those in our parking lot last year just cruising along. They were sick and they were all over 620 as well. I haven't seen any since, until your post. At least it's outside!!

Yep, one thing I do NOT miss about Austin (the only thing)....the creepy crawly things!

All I can say is, good thing your friendly neighbor was on the outside of the window.

EW!! I would have freaked out. I also clicked on your link to the gross centipede you had on your microwave last year, and that really creeped me out. I really don't like anything that is creepy crawly. Here I am upset that a squirrel is eating all my birdfood and you have a huge tarantula on your window! Yuck!

Creepy, creepy, creepy! The last spider I saw that was that big was when I was in Brazil twenty years ago. I didn't handle it well then and I don't think I've gotten any braver. (Is that a word?) Ewwww!

P.S. Yes, please add my link to your blog....and may I do the same? Texas was home for us for quite a while so I'm reliving it through you :)

EEEWWWWW!!!! I think I would have passed out! I hate spiders! They're just as bad the rats we had (key word = HAD) under our deck this winter. Good thing it was outside though.

Kelly, call me weird but I kind of think all the creepy crawlers are cool here. I dont want to roll over in bed and find one with me but it is just different than the East coast.
i.am.dead. did you scream?

Oh My HECK Kelly!!! Between that and the giant centipede....I don't know if I could do it!

When we lived in Texas, one afternoon I got a water pitcher out of the cupboard to make some juice. When I went to dump the juice in it I saw that there was a very large scorpian in the bottom of the pitcher! I screamed, then quickly dumped it into the sink, turned on the water and washed it down the drain, and then flipped on the garbage disposal. I can still hear the crunching sound it made! I know, animal cruelty, but it just completely freaked me out!

Ya gotta love Texas!!

I hate spiders more than I hate going to the dentist. and that is a lot. I don't know if I will be visiting your home anytime soon, nothing personal. Just a really big fear of mine.

Remind me again why people live in Texas? Those are seriously SCARY critters!
Yikes! Spiders are the only thing that I am very much afraid of. I'll take a cockroach or a snake any day.

Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party!

Hopefully this title, Book of Mormon Stories Pool Party , does not sound irreverent, because as an Activity Days leader, I felt compelled to come up with a fun end-of-the-summer event that is also uplifting, and after all, who doesn't love a splash in the pool on a hot day in August?  My current church calling, or official role that I volunteer for, allows me to plan two activities each month for girls ages 8 to 11, that will encourage them to learn and live the gospel, serve others, and use the talents Heavenly Father has given them, to learn to do many good things.  This year's seminary course of study for high school students is The Book of Mormon, and since I am a huge fan of this inspired book of scripture, I came up with this idea to have each girl show up to my house with a written summary of one of her favorite stories from within its many pages, and share it with the rest of the girls, while outside in our swimsuits near our backyard swimming pool!  As each girl shares

Our new daughter!

This picture was taken at church a few days ago while Kelly was on his way to the US for work this week. We have some wonderful news to share.  We are adopting 7-year-old Yeh Min Yu, who has been in our home off and on the last couple of months.  There's a lot that goes into making this official, dealing with US Homeland Security to arrange for her immigration visa, Taiwan courts and Chinese documents, getting a home study done by a licensed, qualified person, applying for a passport.  You have no idea.  I'll be glad when it's all done, but I couldn't wait to share this bit of joy with everyone.  We will name her Hannah to go on her new US birth certificate.  She's excited and nervous to go to America with us.  She can say more than 100 words in English so far.  Some of her favorite things to say are "small dog, butterfly, apple, pig."  She says it more like pig-uh.  We love her and feel this is one of the reasons we came to Taiwan.  Who would have thoug

Elder Larson to return from Thailand soon

Soon is relative, I suppose. Our son has been away from home more than a year and a half as he has been volunteering as a full-time missionary in the Thailand Bangkok Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since September 14, 2016. He will be home in four months and is working so hard, knowing his time there is winding down. He has been assigned to train Elder Ben Meyer, from Sydney, Australia, as they serve in Ubon, Thailand. Christopher has been there since November. We are very proud of his dedication and hard work. This week in Thailand, the new prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, with his wife, Wendy Nelson, along with one of the Twelve Apostles, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, and his wife, Patricia Holland, will be on their world ministering tour and be where our son is. The Church members and missionaries in Thailand are very excited and happy for this special visit! I can't wait to hear how it goes, and I look forward to pictures and stories to come.
